Most are likely unaware that this week is considered National Fire Prevention Week. This morning the Pierson and Kingsley departments joined forces to talk with the K-4 students, then went to Pierson to talk with the 5-8 students. We showed them many of the tools we use, discussed safety, and what to do if there is a fire.

We are fortunate to have a fantastic working relationship with Kingsley and can often join forces for events such as this since we both serve both communities as automatic mutual aid for many of the calls we deal with.

We encourage everyone to stay diligent in keeping safe. Use wise device charging practices, and as we get closer to colder weather, use caution with space heaters. And always reach out if you need help with smoke/fire alarms!

Once again, Pierson was on scene assisting in any way possible.

"The response is another example of the important role volunteer fire departments play in communities across northwest Iowa. When emergencies happen, volunteer firefighters leave their homes, jobs and families to respond when their neighbors need help."

Our guys/gals are dedicated to answering the call no matter the day or time. Proud of what this little small town fire department has been able to accomplish!

Firefighters Battle Early-Morning Fire, Save Hog Confinement Building with hogs inside

Multiple volunteer fire departments responded to an early-morning fire Sunday after Kingsley Fire and Rescue was paged shortly after 4:30 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, one of the buildings was fully engulfed in flames and had already collapsed. Radio traffic indicated the fire was spreading toward a second confinement building that contained hogs.

With the fire threatening the confinement building, crews went into an offensive strategy focused on protecting the structure and preventing the fire from spreading.

Fire departments from across the area, including departments from Plymouth, Cherokee and Woodbury counties, responded to assist. The coordinated response allowed firefighters to protect the confinement building and prevent it from catching fire.

Crews later brought the fire in the original building under control.

The response is another example of the important role volunteer fire departments play in communities across northwest Iowa. When emergencies happen, volunteer firefighters leave their homes, jobs and families to respond when their neighbors need help.

Volunteer departments depend on members of their communities to answer those calls. If you have ever considered becoming a volunteer firefighter, EMT or helping your local fire department in another way, consider reaching out to your local department and learning more about how you can get involved.

Your local volunteer fire department may need you.

As many of you know, we recently dealt with another house fire here in Pierson. While it could have been so much worse, we are so thankful the family is ok. Let's do what these small towns do best on September 20 and show the Krier family how we pull together and support one another in a time of need.

Kingsley Community Rallies Behind Krier Family After Devastating House Fire

A Kingsley family facing the aftermath of a devastating house fire is receiving support from the community.

The Krier family, including parents and their three young children, Elena, Amelia and Landon, is the focus of an upcoming community benefit aimed at providing financial assistance as the family works through a difficult time.

The Krier Family Breakfast Benefit is scheduled for Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 8 a.m. to noon at Kingsley School, 322 Quest Ave. in Kingsley.

The event will include a breakfast, silent auction and bake sale. Organizers say the fundraiser is being held in partnership with KCAC and that all proceeds will go directly to the Krier family.

The benefit offers community members an opportunity to come together and support the family following the devastating fire.

For more information, organizers listed [email protected] as the event contact.
