This is a great resource provided by KAXE / KBXE. The article has three items that are specific to the ballots for May Township: 1) learn more about the two candidates for township supervisor; 2) learn more about the question to combine the township clerk and treasurer position (several other northern townships are asking the same question) and 3) learn more about the Permanent School Fund ballot question.

Minnesotans will vote on the permanent school fund amendment, and Northern Minnesotans will decide on local school and township questions in the 2026 midterm election.

๐Ÿ“‹ Ballot Question: Combining Clerk & Treasurer Positions

May Township voters will decide: "Shall option D, providing for combining the offices of clerk and treasurer, be adopted for the government of the town?"

Currently, the Township employs a separate Clerk and Treasurer. This question asks whether to combine both roles into one โ€” held by the Clerk โ€” as the Treasurer position phases out.

โœ… Passes: One combined clerk-treasurer position, potential cost savings for taxpayers.
โŒ Doesn't pass: No change โ€” the Township keeps both positions as they are today.

See the sample ballot below. Make sure your voice is heard this election! ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ

๐Ÿ“‹ On Your Ballot This Year: Combining the Clerk & Treasurer Positions

May Township voters will decide this question: "Shall option D, providing for combining the offices of clerk and treasurer, be adopted for the government of the town?"

What does this mean?

The Town Clerk and Town Treasurer are township employee positions, not elected offices. Right now, the Township employs two separate people to fill these two roles. This question asks whether to combine them into a single clerk-treasurer position.

โœ… If it passes:

The clerk and treasurer duties are merged into one combined position, held by the Clerk.
The current Treasurer's role phases out over time, and the Treasurer position is not filled again once it's vacated.
Going forward, the Township employs one person (the Clerk) to handle both sets of responsibilities instead of two โ€” which can mean cost savings for taxpayers.

โŒ If it doesn't pass:

Nothing changes. The Township continues to employ a separate Clerk and a separate Treasurer, as it does today.

A quick civics note: This is one of several "options" available to Minnesota townships under state law (Minnesota Statutes Chapter 367) for structuring local government โ€” this particular one is known as "Option D."

Make sure your voice is heard this election! ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ
