A very special THANK YOU to everyone who came out to our 1st Annual Pilot Mountain Rescue Squad Bike Show!

Commemorating the 25th Anniversary of 9/11 was special for us and everyone in attendance. Though the morning weather hid the mountain from view and threatened to send us running from rain, we still had many folks come out to support and help us raise money for our cause!

A very special thank you to our Pilot Mountain Rescue Squad Auxiliary for the great job in “slingin food” throughout the day!

Our Auxiliary President, Mr. Garth Utley stated that it was really cool to spend time together and work towards a common cause.
They also would like to thank our area sponsors who pitched in to make this day a great success!
* G&B Energy- for loaning us their grill
* Mount Airy Meat Center - for setting us up with food supplies
* Quilts of Hope, The Kingdom Disciples and the Surry County Chapter Dragon Slayer Motorcycle Clubs for joining us and setting up booths
* Our local Pilot Mountain Food Lion for their generous donation

And we certainly cannot forget the dessert crew!
* Wanda Lawson’s zucchini bread and peanut butter brittle!
* Hailey Hudspeth’s pumpkin bread and peach cake!
* JoAnn Manuel’s chocolate eclair!
* Leslie Sawyers’ sugar and chocolate chip cookies!
* Kristin Utley’s chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies and brownies
* Pilot Mountain Civic Club’s cake slices
If you missed these desserts, you truly missed out

For more information on how you can join our mission, please visit our website or reach out to us on our social media accounts and we will get you plugged in!
We are actively accepting applications for both rescuers and auxiliary members!

We hope to see you again next year on Saturday September 11th 2027, so mark your calendars early so you won’t miss out!

WE WILL NEVER FORGET

September 11, 2001 - September 11, 2026

Last week, we shared photos of a vehicle swept away when the flood washed out the road, a stark reminder of how fast situations can turn dangerous. 🌧
Today, we’re thrilled to share something much brighter. 🌞
Watch this interview with the driver! In our line of work, seeing a safe, happy outcome from a bad situation means everything to us.
Thank you all for your support, and please stay safe out there!"

Surry County woman rescued after car plunges into washed out culvert

Last night into the early hours of this morning, YOUR RESCUE SQUAD fought the weather and braved the elements to help ensure our community made it home safely.

Water rescues were performed throughout the night across the county by countless rescuers, removing multiple victims from floodwaters, responding to motor vehicle accidents, and handling numerous other emergencies.

As a reminder to everyone: FLOODWATERS ARE NO JOKE! Please use extreme caution while traveling throughout the area, as many roads remain flooded or impassable. Never drive through floodwaters, even if they appear safe.

Turn Around, Don’t Drown!

“I am beyond proud and thankful for our Pilot Mountain Rescue volunteers who selflessly answered the call, putting themselves in harm’s way to protect and serve the place we call home. The Good Lord watched over us throughout the night and allowed every victim and every rescuer to return home safely. For that, we are truly grateful. Thank you as well to all of our partnering agencies who answered the call to help their fellow man.”

Squad 86 would like to take a moment to honor and welcome our newest honorary member Mr Randy Stanley!

Randy and his team at Garanco have been vital in the renovation and longevity of our rescue squad and daily mission. Without him and his team, we would not be where we currently are today. Randy also serves his local community as a sitting board member for 86. Squad members voted as a whole to make him an honorary member of our organization!

Please join us in saying THANK YOU and congratulations to Randy!
