Isaias Shifts Eastward

ISAIAS UPDATE 20261009 5 pm – The projected path of Isaias has shifted a bit eastward and that means changes to local impacts.
The last update from the National Hurricane Center reports the storm has maximum sustained winds of 115 mph, rated as a major hurricane. It is moving north at 17 mph and currently projected to make landfall tonight along the Florida Panhandle east of the Alabama-Florida border

The local area is currently under a Tropical Storm Warning with a 30 to 40 percent chance of experiencing tropical storm force winds. That is tentatively projected to occur between 8 pm Friday and 2 am Saturday.
The local area remains in a zone that could receive 1” to 4” of rain with the possibility of flash flooding. Those area residents in flood prone areas should pay close attention to rapidly rising creeks and streams.
Also remaining is the potential for tornadic weather.
Area residents are urged to secure lightweight objects kept outdoors and prepare for the potential for widespread power outages. Do not approach downed lines, be safe and presume any line on the ground is a charged power line. With the ground wet, keep well away from any lines on the ground or hanging from trees or tree limbs.
Make sure to have flashlights with extra batteries and a working battery-powered radio.

Anyone with rain gauges, feel free to post your rainfall amounts below. Those of you with an anemometer, or wind gauge, please post your readings as well.
We anticipate posting another update later tonight.

Keeping Eyes on Isaias

20261007 – The first hurricane of the 2026 season could impact the local area.
Tropical Storm Isaias is currently located in the southwest corner of the Gulf. Current maximum sustained winds are 40 mph and it is moving east-northeast at 8 mph. Not very impressive now but things are forecast to change over the next couple of days as the storm is projected to rapidly grow stronger, possibly becoming a Category 2 hurricane before making landfall.
The projected path of Isaias remains uncertain, but it is expected the hurricane watches will be posted for sections of the Gulf Coast later today. The most probable path indicates somewhere along the Mississippi, Alabama, or Florida panhandle.
Current projections indicate the possibility of heavy rain, significant winds and the potential for flash flooding in the local area on Saturday.
This is a fluid situation and area residents are urged to at least start considering preparations for the potential for severe weather.
This information will be updated Thursday.
