Sublette County Unified Fire Sublette County Unified Fire provides fire protection/emergency response for all of Sublette County

Sublette County Unified Fire was officially formed in 2014 by County Resolution specifically to provide fire-related services for the three incorporated towns in the county, as well as for the remaining unincorporated areas of the county. The creation of Sublette County Unified Fire has consolidated six separate fire departments into one single, unified organization that provides fire protection for the entirety of the county.

Volunteers from three battalions responded to a 9-1-1 call from the Big Piney Landfill earlier this week. A fire had started in some trash bags. Fortunately there were no injuries or damage to the building. What we learned is that the fire was started by discarded string lights - powered by lithium batteries.

“If people would just keep their batteries separate or even alert waste management staff, it could avoid these fires,” said Billy Pape, Superintendent of waste management.

We are encouraging you to keep anything with a battery separate when taking your trash to our County facilities. Kids toys, tool batteries, string lights - anything with a lithium battery should be taken separately and given directly to someone at the dump or put in special areas for batteries located at both the Pinedale and Big Piney facilities.

Fire investigators say the entire system worked as it should. Alarms went off. Sprinklers went off. And volunteer firefighters were able to respond, keeping the fire from spreading.

Thank you ! (And check out our cadet at the hose in the photos below!)

Sublette County Unified Fire not only responds and prepares for emergencies at all times, we know that fire prevention begins at a very early age. That’s why we are thrilled and honored to go to Sublette County elementary schools this week to teach about fire safety during Fire Prevention Week. Wednesday, it was a tour of Fire Station #1 - Pinedale and Storytime at the Sublette County Library. Thanks to all who came to visit, learn, share and explore. We love our community!

On the same day that Sublette County lifted Stage 1 burn restrictions, an unattended slash pile got out of control in Bondurant resulting in response from our Sublette County Unified Fire volunteer firefighters. We want to remind you to not leave fires unattended, to burn when weather conditions are calm, to make sure your pile is dry in the middle and wet around the edges. And always, call before you burn. If you have any questions about how to burn safely and efficiently do not hesitate to call. 307-367-4550
