On Tuesday August 4th, Bell County Emergency Management had the privilege of partnering with the Pineville Independent School District in a multi agency Full Scale Active Shooter Exercise. This exercise took months of planning and coordinating with school officials and several first responders and other agencies. There were more than 100 participants including school staff and first responders.

During the exercise the Pineville Independent School SRO along with Bell County Ky Sheriff's Department and Pineville Ky Police Department located and neutralized 2 active shooters and conducted a thorough sweep of the entire school. Bell County Emergency Medical Service & Training Center and Middlesboro Fire Department/EMS treated and transported several mock victims to Pineville Community Health Center while 1 mock patient was treated and air lifted by Air Evac Lifeteam 33 - Middlesboro, KY. Several other mock patients with minor injuries were triaged and released by the Pineville Fire Dept. and Bell County Volunteer Fire Department. Jason Steele with the Bell County Coroners office was called to the scene for 6 mock fatal victims.

Other agencies that were involved were:

Kentucky Emergency Management
Bell County Health Department
Southeast Kentucky Health Coalition
Bell County 911
The Big ONE 106.3 FM WRIL

Thank you to the Pineville Independent School officials and staff for allowing this training opportunity and putting safety and preparedness first for your students.
