The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office is pleased to announce that we have been awarded $14,500 in grant funding under the Nevada Department of Public Safety – Office of Traffic Safety Joining Forces program for Federal Fiscal Year 2027.

The Joining Forces program supports multi-agency traffic enforcement campaigns to reduce traffic fatalities, prevent crashes, and increase public safety across Nevada roadways.

This grant funding supports our deputies in maintaining a proactive presence across Lincoln County’s highways and rural corridors. Our primary focus remains keeping motorists safe, reducing traffic-related incidents, and saving lives.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office reminds all drivers to practice safe driving habits, obey posted speed limits, drive sober, avoid distractions, and wear seatbelts at all times.

Major Drug Seizure on US 93

On October 13, 2026, Lincoln County Deputies were conducting an interdiction operation on the US 93 highway. During a routine traffic stop, indications were made that prompted one of our deputies to conduct a K9 open-air sniff on the vehicle. Upon a positive indication, the vehicle was searched and a significant amount of illegal narcotics was located and seized.

The vehicle contained 13 large storage totes containing the suspected narcotics. Field testing of the substances produced in positive results for 677 pounds of methamphetamine and approximately 30 pounds of fentanyl.

This seizure is the largest narcotics seizure in the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office history and one of the largest in Nevada history. Due to the immense amount of narcotics, the Sheriff’s Office has turned this case over to the Department of Homeland Security-Investigations Division (H.S.I). We appreciate our partnership with H.S.I and their efforts in eradicating these substances from American streets. We are also extremely proud of the vigilance and attention to detail shown by deputies during this stop.

This is still an active investigation, and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office will not be providing any further information at this time.

⚠️ WEATHER SAFETY ALERT – LINCOLN COUNTY, NEVADA ⚠️

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office urges all residents to use extreme caution as the impacts of Tropical Storm Rachel may bring hazardous weather conditions to our area, including heavy rainfall, flash flooding, and dangerous road conditions beginning tonight, 10-10-26 through Tuesday, 10-13-26.

🌧️ Please take the following precautions:

🚫 TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN! Never drive through flooded roadways. Even shallow water can sweep away a vehicle, and floodwaters may conceal washed-out roads or other hazards. If you do come across a flooded area, please report it.

🚗 Limit unnecessary travel. If you do not need to be on the roads, please stay home.

⚠️ Never drive around barricades or attempt to cross flooded areas.

🏠 Stay informed. Monitor weather alerts and local emergency announcements, and be prepared to move to higher ground if flooding threatens your area.

📱 Check on family, neighbors, and vulnerable individuals who may need assistance preparing for severe weather.

🌊 Flash flooding can develop quickly, leaving little time to react. Please do not underestimate the power of moving water.

The safety of our community is our priority. Please use common sense, remain alert, and take precautions to protect yourself and your loved ones.

Stay safe, Lincoln County!

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) would like to inform the public of two recent coroner cases near the town of Alamo.

The first incident occurred on August 21, 2026. The sheriff’s office received reports of a deceased person approximately 25 miles south of the Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters. The reporting party was out exploring the area and came across an abandoned vehicle that appeared to be stuck. Finding no one associated with the vehicle, they continued their travel and subsequently found a deceased person off the roadway and promptly called the LCSO. Deputies discovered the deceased was listed as a missing person out of the Las Vegas area. The remains were sent to the Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical examiner for a full autopsy where it was determined that the death was accidental. It was determined that the individual died of extreme heat exposure. This investigation is now closed.

The second incident occurred on September 20, 2026. The sheriff’s office received a call from the US Fish and Wildlife service regarding suspected human remains located at the Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge. The deputies that responded identified them as human skeletal remains and proceeded with collecting them for further investigation. The remains were sent to the Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner for a full autopsy. The cause and manner of death as well as the s*x, race and age of the remains are unknown at this time. This incident is still under investigation.

We would like to note that these two incidents are separate and in no way related to each other.

We would like to take this time to remind everyone the dangers of the desert. With extreme heat, limited shade and water resources, dangerous situations can arise fast. If you are going to explore our beautiful wilderness, please be sure to take precautions. Ensure you take plenty of water and provisions, let someone know where you are going or your direction of travel, and when they should expect to hear from you. Also keep in mind, that even though summer is behind us, the desert can become very cold and harsh at night, so precautions are still essential.
