Mark your calendars for the 31st Annual Cops 'n Kids Field Day at Soto Sports Complex in Arroyo Grande on November 8th from 11am-2pm. There will be law enforcement displays, demonstrations, giveaways, free hot dogs, and so much more! It is a fun-filled family event, and we can't wait to see you there!

Low volume "growl" tests of the Early Warning System sirens will take place Tuesday, October 13 and Wednesday, October 14. Each siren will be tested individually for several minutes.

These tests are conducted to ensure the sirens are operational and working correctly should they need to be sounded during an actual emergency.

During this test, NO action is required by the public. If the sirens were sounded during an actual emergency, it would be at full volume for three to five minutes. If you hear the sirens outside of a scheduled test, tune to a local TV or radio station for emergency instructions.

We had the opportunity to participate in two fantastic community outreach events on Tuesday, and what a great time it was!

Our officers joined students, parents, and staff from Shell Beach Elementary School for National Walk & Roll to School Day. We had a blast riding alongside the students from Dino Caves Park all the way to campus and helping promote safe, healthy ways to get to school.

Just across the road, other members of our team enjoyed connecting with community members and visitors during National Coffee with a Cop Day at The Steaming Bean. We appreciated the opportunity to answer questions, have meaningful conversations, and strengthen relationships over a great cup of coffee. A special thank you to The Steaming Bean for not only providing the venue but setting us up with some delicious baked goods and coffee.

While some days in law enforcement involve difficult challenges, opportunities like these remind us how fortunate we are to serve such an incredible community. Thank you to everyone who joined us. We look forward to seeing you at future community events! ☕🚴‍♂️🚓

Over the weekend, a vigilant officer observed a group of individuals in possession of what appeared to be a large quantity of clams well after legal clamming hours had ended. Upon contacting the four individuals, two fled the scene, although one later returned.
During the investigation, officers recovered a total of 494 Pismo clams, only 16 of which met the legal size requirement for harvest. None of the individuals possessed a valid fishing license, measuring device, or clam fork. The three subjects, all from the Bay Area, were arrested and booked into the county jail on multiple commercial fishing-related violations. Thanks to the efforts of responding personnel, all recovered clams were successfully reburied and are expected to survive. We would like to thank the California Department of Fish and Wildlife for their assistance with this investigation.

Pismo clams were once over-overharvested and their numbers severely depleted. Due to years of conservation efforts and strict regulations, their population is steadily recovering. We encourage everyone to help protect this important natural resource for future generations by familiarizing themselves with and following all applicable clamming laws and regulations.

- Clammers must possess a valid fishing license and an accurate (rigid) measuring device.
- Pismo clams must measure at least 4 1/2" in length to be possessed.
- Undersized Pismo clams must be immediately reburied, two inches deep, in the area where dug.
- Bag limit is 10 Pismo clams.
- Hours of clamming are 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset.
