This week we have some more awesome Wildcats to recognize as Jersey Mike's Athletes of the Week! 🐾
For the week of October 12- 16, we are recognizing a runner from the cross country team, 8th grader Nina Jackson, for her performance in the meet on Tuesday, October 13. We are also recognizing Charlie Freuler, a 7th grader, who was an awesome goalie during the soccer game against Chatham Middle.

💡 Middle School Life Skills: Health & Self-Care 🧼
✨Navigating the middle school years comes with a lot of changes, and building solid personal hygiene habits is a major milestone! Helping your student build independence in their daily routine sets them up for lifelong healthy habits.
Here are a few quick ways to support your student at home:
🚿 Establish daily routines: Work together on setting consistent habits for showering, brushing, and flossing.
✨ Make daily care automatic: Remind them to apply deodorant as part of their morning or post-activity routine.
🛍️ Involve them in the choice: Take your student to the store to let them pick out their own body wash, toothpaste, and deodorant—having items they choose themselves makes sticking to the routine much more engaging!

🚌 It’s National Bus Safety Week! 💛

The safety of our students is our top priority—both inside the classroom and on the road! As we highlight bus safety this week, please help us keep our Wildcats safe by reviewing these quick reminders with your student:

🚦 At the Bus Stop:

Arrive at the bus stop 5 minutes early.

Stand at least 3 giant steps back from the curb while waiting.

Wait until the bus comes to a complete stop and the door opens before approaching.

🚘 For Drivers in Our Community:

Stop on Red: Flashing red lights and an extended stop arm mean stop! Never pass a stopped school bus loading or unloading children.

Slow down in school zones and near designated bus stops.

Let’s work together to ensure every ride to and from school is a safe one! Thank you to our incredible bus drivers for keeping our kids safe every single day! 🐾✨

The Book Fair is coming to the library, and we’ve got special after-school hours paired with game days so you can drop by before or after supporting our teams!

⏰ Special Afterschool Hours: Monday, Oct 19 (3:00–4:00 PM): Open during Boys Soccer vs. Pollard
Tuesday, Oct 27 (3:00–4:00 PM): Open after school
Thursday, Oct 29 (3:00–7:30 PM): Open late during Home Soccer & Softball vs. Pollard

Families, mark your calendars for an incredible evening celebrating the amazing creative talents of our students! Horton Highlights is fast approaching, and we can’t wait to bring our school community together to support our young artists, musicians, and performers.

🎨 Attention Students: There is still time to participate! If your student wants to showcase their visual art or join the live performances, encourage them to speak with their arts teachers this week to get involved.

This week we have some more awesome Wildcats to recognize as Jersey Mike's Athletes of the Week! 🐾
For the week of October 5-9, we are recognizing some awesome runners. 🏃🏼‍♀️‍➡️🏃🏽‍♂️ The cross country girls and boys team both won last Tuesday. Contributing to that win were both Ilsa Thorbeck, who has consistently done great this season, and Eli Turner, who has built a strong presence. These 8th graders are both new to our school, and are making a great addition to our Wildcats! 🎉
Come cheer on the team next Tuesday, October 26 at Jordan Matthews for the county meet!
