The Pittsburg State Chapter of KANS was honored to welcome Grace Pyle, RN, BSN, as our guest speaker! Grace shared valuable insights about the transition from nursing student to professional RN, emphasizing the importance of teamwork, time management, lifelong learning, appreciating the knowledge and skills of colleagues, and never losing sight of the compassion that is at the heart of nursing.
Grace’s message resonated with our students, especially as she reflected on balancing the demands of nursing school while serving as a starting member of Pitt State’s nationally competitive Final Four basketball team. Her experiences highlighted how strong teamwork and effective time management contributed to her success both on the court and in the classroom.
Our students were highly engaged and asked thoughtful questions, making for a great discussion. Thank you, Grace, for sharing your experiences, wisdom, and encouragement with the future nurses of KANS!

What a great day of collaboration and hands-on learning!
On September 15, Pittsburg State University nursing students had the opportunity to participate in the SCORE 1 collaborative experience alongside Kansas City University medical and dental students.
Third, fourth, and fifth grade students from Joplin and surrounding area schools attended the event and participated in a variety of health screenings. This experience provided an excellent opportunity for our nursing students to work collaboratively with future healthcare professionals while providing valuable health services to children in our community.
We are grateful to KCU and the SCORE 1 team for providing such a meaningful interprofessional learning experience for our students. It was a wonderful day of learning, teamwork, and community engagement!
