I was so happy to be part of the 9th Annual Bedford Block Party. It was a true honor to support Choice in Aging and the vital work being done at The Bedford Center in Antioch.

Congratulations to honoree, Sarah Mari Yoell! Thank you for your continued dedication to our community and for supporting the most vulnerable members of our Contra Costa County family.

A special thank you to Debbie Toth and her amazing team at Choice in Aging and The Bedford Center for putting on such a successful event!
As the only licensed Adult Day Health Care (ADHC) center in East County, The Bedford Center is a vital lifeline for older adults and those living with chronic conditions. The funds raised help foster independence, provide essential respite for caregivers, and keep participants living safely and comfortably in their own homes.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this event a success!

It was an honor to celebrate strength and solidarity in my hometown of Pittsburg at the Sisters 3 Annual Breast Cancer Awareness event at the Pittsburg Senior Center.

In observation of Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October 2026), we gathered to honor the resilience of survivors, remember those we hold in our hearts, and promote the vital importance of early detection.

Thank you to the Sisters 3 organization for continuing this meaningful tradition. Your dedication uplifts survivors, supports families, and strengthens our community.

The first-ever Carquinez Industry & Economic Forum was a great success. Huge shoutout to the Martinez Chamber of Commerce for putting this together and they did a fantastic job hosting.

The theme was “Strengthening Industry & Advancing Regional Prosperity,” and it was a really productive day. The event featured honest conversations about the challenges our local industries are facing, as well as the opportunities to help the Carquinez region thrive long-term.

It was great to connect with so many stakeholders in the room who are just as committed to our community’s future. Thanks to everyone who came out to share their ideas!

Join us for a special Celebration of Life honoring my mother-in-law, Jamersina “Ms. Jamie” Preston, this Thursday, October 8th at 6:00 PM.

Last week, we held her services in Richmond, where she was from. However, Ms. Jamie moved to the City of Pittsburg in 2018, and we would now like to honor her in the city she called home and celebrate with the friends and loved ones who knew her.

Ms. Jamie was a member of the Pittsburg Kiwanis Club. She volunteered in the community, attended meetings and events, and joined her fellow Kiwanis members in providing free books to local youth. She also enjoyed participating in activities at the Pittsburg Senior Center.

Please join us for food, conversation, laughter, and an opportunity to share your favorite memories of Ms. Jamie.

I have been struggling to find the right words to share the passing of my mother-in-law. With heavy hearts, we invite you to join us as we gather to honor and celebrate the remarkable life of my beloved mother-in-law, Jamersina Preston, known to so many as "Mrs. Preston or Mrs. Jamie”.

She touched countless lives with her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love. We would be deeply honored to have those who knew her join us during this time of remembrance and reflection as we celebrate her life and faith.

It’s been 25 years since the terror attacks on 9/11 changed our country forever. As we reflect today on 25 years since 9/11, let us honor, and remember the ones we lost, their family members, and all those who witnessed these tragic events.

I wanted to take a moment to share my story on 9/11. If we can feel comfort and consolation in telling our story on that day, then I encourage you to share your story with others.

Let us recognize and cherish our family, friends, and loved ones as 9/11 reminds us that the world can change in an instant.

Our community matters, and we will always support our immigrant bothers and sisters, who have been a part of our community for years.

I’m proud of the action we took. We sent a message loud and clear that we will protect our neighbors in the face of fear and chaos.

My office will continue to facilitate these important conversations, and we will continue to listen to our community members.

The 2026 District 5 Youth Summit is almost here, and we still need approximately 10 more volunteers to help us create an inspiring, welcoming, and well-organized day for our young people!

📍 Los Medanos College in Pittsburg
⏰ 8:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.

Volunteers are essential to the success of this event. From welcoming students and assisting with registration to providing directions, supporting workshops, distributing materials, and helping with activities, every volunteer contributes to a positive experience for our youth.

The Summit will give students in grades 6–12 opportunities to hear from inspiring speakers, explore college and career pathways, participate in interactive workshops, connect with community resources, enjoy music and activities, and imagine what is possible for their futures.
