Yesterday, the Brentwood community came together for the annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

From the procession along Brownsville Road to the moving ceremony at the Brentwood Library, the day served as a powerful reminder of the true meaning of Memorial Day β€” not just the unofficial start of summer, but a day of remembrance, reflection, and gratitude.

Mayor Mike Foyle spoke about the more than 652,000 service members who have been killed in action throughout our nation’s history and reminded us that β€œthe price of freedom is steep, and the grief families feel is real and lasting.”

One of the most meaningful moments of the ceremony was recognizing the Brentwood families connected to our military banner program β€” families who continue to honor and remember their loved ones who never made it home. The stories shared about Corporal Robert Wagner, Clark Peden, Thomas Mitchell, and James Flannery reminded us that these heroes were more than names on banners. They were neighbors, classmates, teammates, brothers, husbands, and friends whose sacrifices helped preserve the freedoms we enjoy today. The Mayor also presented each of family a proclamation for their beloved family member.

Thank you to Brentwood VFW Post 1810 for continuing this important tradition, along with our veterans, police, fire, EMS, Brentwood Library, Brentwood High School Marching Band, volunteers, participants, and all residents who attended to pay their respects.

β€œGreater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” β€” John 15:13

May we never forget those who gave everything for our country. β€οΈπŸ€πŸ’™
