We're cleaning up around Observation Turnout #1 (the structure nearest Washington Blvd) with the wonderful help and hard work of Landforce. Last year the Pittsburgh Department of Public Works helped with preserving the Turnout by managing uphill and fallen vegetation and creating a safer work space for both DPW/Forestry crews and volunteers.
This spring, LANDFORCE (https://www.landforcepgh.org/) came out for FREE and removed several VERY LARGE logs, which will now allow us to clean up the Turnout's driveway and wooded area. Landforce will mill the logs at their new facility and turn them into wonderful things. It's incredible - watch the video!

The Spring ARB litter cleanup was held today, 3/21. We had many volunteers from both Pittsburgh Major Taylor Cycling Club and ARBPA and got "almost" all of the section from Washington Boulevard to Turnout #2 cleaned up! There are a few spots left to hit but it is the most we've done in years. Big thanks to PMTCC for holding the event (16th years) and to PennDOT for quickly picking up the over 50 bags of litter and all the car parts! Good job everyone, ARB looks so much better!

No ice! Do you remember the work PennDOT did last spring/summer along ARB? We just took a drive-by to see how the improved roadway and drainage have dealt with this winter storm and snow. It looks great! There's no noticeable ice sheets extending out into the roadway, just well plowed snow piled along the sides. This means that all that drainage work they did on the slope side of ARB has paid off. THANK YOU ! We very much appreciate your efforts and a safer driving experience on ARB. Everyone, please drive carefully and stay safe, more snow is coming!

Thank you so much for all your hard work Representative Joe McAndrew and thanks also to Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 11.0, the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission, and Congressman Chris Deluzio. This will be a major improvement to Allegheny River Boulevard and to the travelling experience of more than 7 million people per year! Bravo!

Have you noticed that there's been some incredible efforts being done to improve things along Allegheny River Blvd? ARBPA has been at work at Turnout #1 (near Washington Blvd), with the help of the Pittsburgh DPW/Forestry Division in preserving the walls by managing uphill and fallen vegetation and creating a safer work space for both DPW/Forestry crews and our volunteers (note the wonderful lockable gates!). Some of the photos are BEFORE (with the trees growing inside the stone structure), some during the cleanup work, and some afterward. MUCH IMPROVED! A big "Thank You" to everyone who did such a great job. We have future plans and dreams for this historic resource. More to come....
