Calling all Black Men!!
📚🖤 4th Annual Black Men Read: Spread the Love. Change the Narrative. 🖤📚
Superintendent Wayne N. Walters, EdD, is calling on Black men across Pittsburgh to show up for our students and show our city that Black Men Read.
As Maya Angelou reminded us:
“Words mean more than what is set down on paper. It takes the human voice to infuse them with shades of deeper meaning.”
On Thursday, February 26, 2026, Black male leaders from across the city will bring words to life for our youngest learners during Black Men Read, taking place at 35 schools across Pittsburgh Public Schools.
📖 Volunteers will read to students in grades K–2, helping to:
• Inspire a love of reading
• Promote early literacy
• Counter harmful narratives by showing students that Black men care deeply about their education, experiences, and futures
👥 Black men are encouraged to participate by confirming availability using the registration form.
Once confirmed, participants will receive details about school assignments and expectations.
