Here are the exact changes PPS will be making as a result of the vote that the school board took this week. While I remain disappointed in the plan, which lacks evidence it will produce better outcomes for students and which Controller Heisler notes will not save any noticeable amount of money, we must now turn to informing families of the changes and ensure that the transition happens as smoothly as possible.
The Future-Ready Plan is approved — and here’s what it means for our schools, families, staff, and communities. ✅
The final facility plan includes school closures, facility closures, school openings, relocations, grade-level configurations, magnet program updates, and special school changes designed to support long-term student success and more equitable learning environments across Pittsburgh Public Schools.
Families and community members are encouraged to stay informed by visiting the official Future-Ready Plan page for updates, FAQs, timelines, resources, and documents: pghschools.org/futurepps

Disappointed to see this vote happen in the absence of any evidence that this will produce better outcomes for students or even save any money. As state representatives, myself and my colleagues want to continue to invest in public education, and that means we need to see PPS make changes based on their ability to show evidence that those decisions will best support students, families, and staff.
Pittsburgh Public Schools board votes to move forward with school closures at the end of June 2027
After nearly three years of heated deliberations, Pittsburgh Public Schools will move forward with its sweeping school closure and reconfiguration plan.

I was incredibly honored to receive the Laura Ditka Visionary Award, alongside my colleagues Sen. Lindsey Williams and Rep. Emily Kinkead, at .pgh Teal Ball. The work PAAR does is lifesaving, meeting people in the hardest moments of their lives and helping them turn trauma into pathways for healing, advocacy, and hope. Together, we will keep building a commonwealth where every survivor is believed, supported, and empowered to heal.

Today, we remember the brave individuals who sacrificed their lives for our country. I joined many in South Side and throughout the hilltop, Brookline, Brentwood, and Carrick in honoring their legacy through service, compassion, and care for our community.
