Peak tax season tests whether payment infrastructure can perform or simply endure. For many agencies, success depends on system reliability and staff capacity when volumes are at their highest.
PaymentExpress is engineered to deliver consistent, year-round payment performance, with the resilience required when tax volumes peak–helping reduce manual work for finance teams, including an average 85% reduction in chargeback rates across clients.
Williamson County, TX, offers a clear example of what this looks like in practice:
➡️ 48% year-over-year reduction e-check returns
➡️ Under 1% return rate during peak tax weeks, even at scale
➡️ 70% decrease in abandoned calls by shifting routine payments to automated IVR

Digital wallets aren’t the future of government payments – they’re the present.
As citizens increasingly expect secure, modern checkout experiences everywhere, government agencies are modernizing to keep pace.
And the shift is real: PaymentExpress now processes more than one million online Apple Pay transactions each year, a milestone that reflects accelerating resident demand for fast, secure digital wallet options.
According to Capital One Shopping’s (https://capitaloneshopping.com/research/apple-pay-statistics/) 2025 digital wallet research:
➡️ Apple Pay holds 92% market share
➡️ 90%+ of retailers accept it
➡️ It accounts for 53.7% of all in-store mobile wallet transactions
➡️ Usage has grown 29% since 2022
Governments are seeing the same trend. The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles expanded from in-person digital wallets to online Apple Pay in October 2024. In their first month, they processed just over 6,000 online Apple Pay transactions and today see 18,000+ each month.
As digital wallet adoption accelerates, PaymentExpress is helping government agencies deliver secure, convenient, and citizen-friendly payment experiences across every channel.

Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC) is now live with PaymentExpress®!
We’re excited to support RASKC as they modernize their payment experience for donors and adopters. Their transition included two online payment solutions and seven new tap-to-pay card readers, bringing faster, easier, and more secure checkout options to the community.
RASKC is one of the first of 30 King County agencies that will transition to PaymentExpress by January 2027. This upgrade strengthens daily operations and frees staff to focus on what matters most: caring for animals and serving residents.
We’re grateful to partner with King County on this multi-agency modernization effort and proud to see the first go-live already delivering value!
