Children’s Institute of Pittsburgh opens new playground

Congratulations to the Allegheny County Parks Foundation and Allegheny County Parks on this significant grant award that will advance the County's goal of connecting the county parks to our regional trail network!

We are thrilled to share that the Allegheny County Parks Foundation has been awarded $10.6 million from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to restore abandoned mine lands in Settlers Cabin Park, improve water quality in Pinkertons Run and create a new trail connection to the Panhandle Trail.
This is the largest grant in our organization's history and a transformational investment in the future of Settlers Cabin Park, the Lower Chartiers Creek watershed and the region, allowing us to improve water quality, restore habitat and expand outdoor recreation opportunities. The connection to the Panhandle Trail will enhance access to the park, connect communities and provide a safe pathway that includes direct access into West Virginia, as well as connections to the Montour Trail and the Great Allegheny Passage.
We are grateful to Allegheny County Parks and our many partners whose years of collaboration helped make this investment possible.

Last Saturday, Kara Roggenkamp and Heather Fuller presented at the PA/DE American Society of Landscape Architects Annual Conference alongside Brandon Riley from the Parks Conservancy. Together, we shared strategies for inclusive design and community engagement from our recent project at the . We also enjoyed keynote sessions on nature-based design from ASLA CEO Torey Carter-Conneen and meadow expert Larry Weaner, and enjoyed a field trip to the Delaware Botanical Garden. It's always inspiring and energizing to exchange ideas with our landscape architect peers!

It's great to see the recommendations we developed for Mt. Lebanon Community Park being implemented. We enjoyed attending today's press conference with Congressman Chris Deluzio, and State Representative-Elect Jen Mazzocco. Congressman Deluzio presented a large check to the Municipality to fund improvements to the Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center.
