🐔UPDATE🐔 Although no owner has come forward, Lt McQuail is safe and sound in a wonderful foster flock at the moment. We appreciate all the support and offers to re-home her, but kindly ask that you do not overwhelm our dispatch center with inquiries.

FOUND CHICKEN…(no, seriously)

A short time ago, our Officers responded to a report of fowl play near the area of 160 Drake Road. Upon arriving, a chicken was found to be roaming center lane, blocking traffic…apparently indecisive as to whether or not to cross the road.

After a hilarious series of events and a short foot pursuit, the chicken was safely detained and transported back to the station. After a brief interrogation, she claimed that she was NOT blocking traffic…but rather directing it…

Lt McQuail is now supervising our dispatch center for the time being, but she really needs to get home before the Chief finds out.

If you are missing what Google has identified as a Plymouth Rock variety chicken, please give us a call at 412-833-2000. She will be the one answering the phone.

We would like to remind motorists that Paul Miller’s Law became effective on June 5, 2025, making it illegal in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to use a hand-held cell phone while operating a motor vehicle. During the first year of the law, officers issued warnings only. Beginning June 6, 2026, violations will be subject to citation.

On June 01, 2026, as part of an effort to educate drivers and improve roadway safety, the Bethel Park Police Department will join several South Hills police agencies in a coordinated enforcement initiative along the Route 19 corridor.

During this initiative, officers will be actively monitoring for distracted driving and will conduct traffic stops on drivers observed using handheld mobile devices – even while temporarily stopped in traffic – to provide education on the dangers associated with distracted driving.

Our hearts are aching as we try to comprehend the immeasurable loss of Heidelberg Police Chief Dennis Dixon, who passed away unexpectedly on Monday. Chief Dixon was a respected leader, mentor, and friend to countless officers, and a beloved fixture in the community that he faithfully served for nearly 20 years. Despite his towering presence, he never looked down on anyone. Instead, he will be remembered for his humor, kindness, and the genuine way he connected with everyone around him.

Our thoughts, prayers, and shared tears are with his family, friends, fellow officers, and all those who knew and loved him. His impact on the South Hills community and the law enforcement profession will never be forgotten.

Today, several officers from the Bethel Park Police Department joined our neighbors from Mt. Lebanon PD and Upper St Clair PD to run a leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

The run began this morning at PNC Park and will cover roughly 150 miles across Western and Central Pennsylvania, concluding at Penn State University on the 21st.

This yearly tradition is a wonderful event that not only raises money for this amazing organization, but also unites law enforcement agencies all across the country in support of the incredible athletes that will compete in the 2026 Summer Games.
