My Dad’s Story: Remembering the Holocaust, with Sue Tresatti and Richard Murphy

More than 1.6 million people were imprisoned in N**i concentration camps between 1933 and 1945. One of them was Norman Roth.

Join Norman’s daughter, Sue Tresatti, for the heartrending story of her father’s imprisonment in the Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps as a teenage boy. Upon arrival at Auschwitz, Norman's life was spared for labor but his mother, younger sister, and younger brother were murdered in the gas chambers. Hear about how Norman survived years of horror and escaped to the West from behind the Iron Curtain, eventually settling in Pittsburgh.

Military researcher and WWII historian Richard Murphy provides historical context. An audience Q&A will follow the presentation.

Allegheny County Library Association 2025 Impact Report Spotlight 📚✨

Today’s feature highlights:

🔹 Mobile Library Services: Did you know that ACLA Mobile Services traveled more than 14,000 miles to 1,065 visits in 2025? ⁉️

🔹 Student Library Cards: To remove barriers, ACLA has provided more than 50,000 students in 17 school districts across Allegheny County with new library cards since 2021.

🔹 Partnerships: ACLA collaborated with multiple partners in 2025 to create programs, provide professional development and to share information sharing.

🔹 Funding: ACLA relies on various contributions to implement new programming and to maintain and update the vital resources used by Allegheny County residents of all ages.

🔹 Leadership: The volunteers who step forward to serve on the ACLA Board of Directors help to make all of this possible with their dedicated leadership.

🌟Library of Things Spotlight: Western Allegheny Community Library 🌟

📚 Did you know that 2026 marks the centennial celebration of the University of Pittsburgh’s renowned Nationality Rooms? Did you know that all thirty-one rooms—located in the Cathedral of Learning—were inspired and supported by various ethnic communities that settled in Allegheny County? Join us Tuesday, May 26th from 6:30pm–8:30pm at the Castle Shannon Library when Michael Walter, Manager of Education Programs, Nationality Rooms and Intercultural Exchange Programs for the university, will be here to discuss how and why the Nationality Rooms came to be.
