The U.S. May Be the World’s Richest Country, But It Ranks 14th in Financial Literacy 11/19/2015

The US may be the richest country in the world, but we are lacking in our knowledge of topics relating to finances, according to a recent survey of countries. Only 57% of Americans surveyed can pass a 5-question financial literacy test, placing us 14th in the world. NeighborWorks Organizations offer free financial education workshops to help close that knowledge gap.

United States Congress has agreed to a two-year budget deal that includes the easing of spending caps (sequestration) and $50 billion and $30 billion in discretionary spending available for FY16 and FY17, respectively. We are proud to announce that the Pennsylvania State Senate has passed the State Housing Trust Fund, also known as PHARE, by a bipartisan vote of 47-1. The Housing Trust Fund with eliminate blight, mitigate homelessness and create housing that individuals and families with low incomes can afford. We tip our hat to the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania and other partners who worked hard to pass this important legislation. Now, the legislation will reach Governor Wolf's desk for his signature. A new study released by Realtor.com finds that "some 32 percent of renters are thinking to buy a home within the next two years, while 89 percent believe that owning a home is a fundamental aspect of the American Dream."
