The Bureau of Environmental Services collects regular mixed and bulk refuse (weekly) from approximately 115,000 residential properties with five dwelling units or less, the Housing Authority, and city government buildings throughout the City. The City disposes of the collected refuse at 2 landfill locations currently in Imperial and Monroeville, PA
The City is required by State law to have a curbside recycling program. The Bureau of Environmental Services collects recycling (bi-weekly) from residential properties with five dwelling units or less, the Housing Authority, Pittsburgh Public Schools and municipal buildings throughout the City and monitors businesses and private haulers for compliance with recycling ordinances.
