Today, we proudly recognize and thank firefighters everywhere for their courage, sacrifice, and dedication to keeping our communities safe.

For the past 99 years, we have been honored to serve the Town of McCandless alongside our brothers and sisters at Ingomar Volunteer Fire Company Station 187 and Peebles District Volunteer Fire Company. Together, we work every day to protect and support the place we all call home.

We also want to thank YOU—our incredible community. Your commitment to safety through maintaining smoke detectors, your support at events like Community Day and Toys for Tots, and your generosity throughout the year truly help make McCandless a safer place for everyone.

Please use extra caution driving through the Township today! 2026 clean up day is underway! Please leave plenty of room for everyone working along side the roads in order to keep everyone safe, while McCandless Public Works and the Volunteers work on keeping your township beautiful. Thank you!

Highland Volunteer Fire Department lost Life Member James Hough. Jim joined the department in 1959. In his time at Highland he held the positions of Chief, President and Treasurer. As Chief Jim’s creed was simple “put the fire out and don’t get hurt doing it” Jim was Highland’s G.O.A.T. Jim was 86. Rest in Peace Jim

For the next month, all 3 McCandless fire companies will be joining together to take Truck Company Ops 1. This evening is the first of 4 classes together to strengthen our knowledge and skills together as the township's Fire companies.

Truck company operations cover various skills such as search and rescue, ventilation, forced entry, salvage, overhaul, and more! These are tactics used at every fire that should be practiced regularly.

This is your friendly reminder to keep these important exhaust vents on your home cleared of snow this winter! You might have to check these areas a few times this weekend to be sure they are remaining free from snow build up. This protects you from CO back up if you have a gas dryer, water heater, or furnace, and also allows your mechanicals to function as they should. Be safe and stay warm!

As we end our Distinguished Alumni spotlights, we are honored to recognize the late Dan Stack, the recipient of our first ever Community Impact in Memoriam Award. Dan selflessly served our community and school district. He is greatly missed.
