DOJ sues to delay Alaska election results if GOP incumbent loses

The Trump administration sued Alaska on Thursday to delay certification of election results if incumbent Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan loses.

Another candidate has the same name as Sen. Dan Sullivan, which the DOJ argues could confuse voters.

DOJ to send election day monitors to four Pennsylvania counties including AlleghenyCounty.

The Department of Justice notified the PA Department of State and Secretary Al Schmidt in a letter that it will be sending election monitors to four counties in PA for the November 3 voting day. The monitors with the DOJ Civil Rights Division will be going to Philadelphia, ALLEGHENY COUNTY, Luzerne, and Lehigh Counties to observe and take notes on the election processes.

STATEMENT FROM THE PITTSBURGH BRANCH NAACP ON PASSAGE OF PAID PARENTAL LEAVE IN ALLEGHENY COUNTY

The Pittsburgh Branch NAACP applauds the passage of 12 weeks of paid parental leave in Allegheny County. This is a major victory for Black families and for every family across our region.

Paid parental leave is a matter of equity. Too many Black families have been forced to choose between a paycheck and the time they need to recover from childbirth, bond with a new child, or welcome a child into their home through adoption or foster placement. No family should have to make that choice, and this policy ensures more Allegheny County parents don't have to.

Today's action moves us forward to a more equitable outcome in health and economic security for Black families and all working families throughout Allegheny County.

We thank County Executive Sara Innamorato for her leadership on this issue.

A group of parents, doctors, lawmakers and more celebrated the first county-led parental leave policy in the United States on what they called a historic day in Allegheny County.
