2026 is off to a strong start. Here's a snapshot of how we supported residents and businesses in Q1 this year:

🏙️ Invested $1.6 million for the creation or preservation of affordable housing
💼 Provided $798,000 in loans and grants to help grow local, small businesses
🏘️ Supported 9 new homeowners with down payment assistance

The URA publishes four quarterly impact reports each year that detail our work making Pittsburgh a more livable city. To read the Q1 impact report, visit the URA website: https://www.ura.org/pages/ura-impact

Did you know that the URA can connect you with free legal services for foreclosure prevention, estate planning, or tangled titles? Homeowners in the City of Pittsburgh who earn less than 80% of the area median income may qualify for these services, made possible through the Housing Opportunity Fund.

The URA is seeking proposals for the redevelopment of a 0.8-acre riverfront site in the Southside Flats. Located at S. 18th Street and S. Riverside Mews, the long-vacant property purchased by the URA in 1995 offers an opportunity for a new mixed-use development in a walkable community near the Riverside Mews townhome development and East Carson Street business district.

Proposals for the redevelopment of 6.82 acres of the Lower Hill into housing are due June 9! More RFP details are on the URA website and in the post below.

The URA is requesting proposals for the redevelopment of 6.8 acres of the Lower Hill. We're looking for housing development plans with affordable or market-rate units, and we are open to mixed-use proposals with first floor commercial spaces.

Returning some of this land to housing is the next step in restoring past harms in the Lower Hill and repairing the neighborhood's connection to the city.

Developers are encouraged to read through the full RFP, which is found on the URA's website.

Today, we joined Woda Cooper and partners to celebrate the groundbreaking of Smithfield Lofts, another transformational development in Downtown City of Pittsburgh's evolution into a vibrant, livable neighborhood.

Woda Cooper's office-to-residential conversion on Smithfield Street will create 46 new apartments, including 39 units rented affordably for residents and families. The development will include 4 studios, 25 one-bedrooms

and 17 two-bedrooms, and will feature a child playroom, fitness room, community space, and units for people with hearing or vision impairments, among other accessibility features and amenities.
The URA was proud to invest $3.25 million to support this project as part of our Downtown investment strategy. Woda Cooper received additional support from the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA), PNC Bank and others whose partnership is helping create more housing opportunities in the heart of our city.

Smithfield Lofts is one of a growing residential development pipeline helping to shape Downtown into a dynamic neighborhood where more people can live, work and thrive!
