CMUPD was proud to recently teach Scotty Strong Self Defense Class #57 with the CMU Societal Systems Department.

It was a great class with an engaged group who learned basic self defense, self awareness, and ways to build confidence in everyday situations.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the class a success. We always enjoy connecting with our CMU community through Scotty Strong.

CMUPD is grateful for the opportunity, as Sgt. Villasenor, Det. Sgt Bruno and Officer Riddle attended the PLECET Professionalizing Law Enforcement Community Engagement Training National Conference last week in Dallas, Texas.

This experience provided valuable insight into strengthening community partnerships, enhancing officer training, and continuing to build trust through professional development. It’s always beneficial to connect with law enforcement professionals from across the country, share best practices, and bring back new ideas that will positively impact our Carnegie Mellon community.

Looking forward to putting what we learned into action.

We are proud to be part of this meaningful tradition and to stand behind the athletes, families, and volunteers who make Special Olympics Pennsylvania so special.

CMUPD joins our law enforcement families across the nation in recognizing National Police Week, May 10th to May 16th.

National Police Week was established in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the surrounding week as a time to honor law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

This week is a time of remembrance, reflection, and gratitude. We honor the courage, service, and sacrifice of the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting their communities.

We remember. We honor. We thank them.

CMUPD was proud to bring our Scotty Strong Self Defense course to the senior class at Oakland Catholic High School. πŸ’ͺ🐾

During the course, students had the opportunity to learn about personal safety, situational awareness, confidence-building, and practical self-defense techniques. The goal of Scotty Strong is not only to teach physical skills, but also to help participants recognize potential risks, trust their instincts, and feel more prepared in everyday situations. πŸ›‘οΈ

A special thank you to Kammy Kemmer, Director of College Counseling, and Oakland Catholic Police Officer Rick Barney for being outstanding community partners and for helping bring this important program to their school. We truly appreciate their support and commitment to student safety. πŸŽ“πŸ‘

It was a great group of students, and we are proud to support their safety, confidence, and continued success.

Be Safe. Stay Strong. Be Scotty Strong. πŸ’™
