County Police have filed charges in connection with a deadly crash in Monroeville.
At 6:26 pm on October 21, 2025, County 9-1-1 was notified of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Haymaker Road and McGinley Road. It was determined that a blue Chevrolet Malibu collided with a gray Nissan Quest. The driver of the Malibu, later identified as 29-year-old Broderick Balanti, was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Quest, later identified as 88-year-old Leroy Hart, was also transported to an area hospital. Hart died on November 1, 2025, and his cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma from a motor vehicle collision.
Through witness interviews, detectives determined Balanti was traveling north on Haymaker Road, while Hart was traveling south on Haymaker Road. Hart attempted to make a left turn onto McGinley Road when he was struck by Balanti’s vehicle. Detectives learned Balanti is a volunteer firefighter and was responding to a call in his personal vehicle without lights and sirens. Technology from Balanti’s vehicle indicated he was traveling 71 mph one second prior to impact with Hart’s vehicle. After consultation with the district attorney’s office, Balanti is facing multiple charges to include homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, and reckless driving.
