Thank you to Britt Baker, president of the Friends of the Josiah Carpenter Library, for planning and executing this year’s library float for Pittsfield’s Old Home Day.

🥇The Library took first place in the youth division and couldn’t have done so without the help of all the patrons who decorated leaves, butterflies and birds as well as the extra hands from Sarah Wentworth and her daughter Aria for their help with assembly on Friday afternoon. Staff members, Heather, Kelsey, and Kim also leant a hand Saturday morning to complete the assembly.

Thank you to Sarah, Aria, Britt, Maria, Kit and Kinzlee who walked and tossed candy to spectators and to Kate, Holly and Britt for candy donations as well.

Our float tied in the old home day theme, “Roots and Wings” in many aspects.

🌳First of all, we had a giant tree in the middle of the float that represented our roots. It was complete with a portrait of Josiah Carpenter and flyers from our 125 Celebration we had just last month.

🦋 There were butterflies and birds decorated by our youngest patrons (the library’s future readers/wings) hanging from the tree limbs.

📚 We all know that books can give us wings as we learn new things. As a result, many books were on display and being read by storybook characters.

🌸 This summer's reading theme was ‘Plant a Seed, Read.’ Summer reading participants painted a number of planting boxes during story-time and book club. They also planted flowers and vegetables. These (roots) were included on the float, too.

It sure does take a village to accomplish these big projects and we are very thankful for each member of our village! ❤️
