3 Opening Receptions and Open Studios next Friday, October 2!

1. Berkshire Art Center (BAC) will host Making Marks by Caroline Kelley at Framework by Downtown Pittsfield, Inc. located at 437 North Street.

There will be an opening reception with the artist on Friday, October 2, from 5 to 7 pm at 437 North Street.

Making Marks offers an opportunity to experience Kelley’s ongoing investigation of the mark as both gesture and language. Through drawing and painting, she explores the ways seemingly spontaneous lines, shapes, and layers can accumulate into something more intentional — an expressive visual vocabulary shaped by instinct, observation, and the rhythms of the world around her.

The exhibition will be on view Monday through Thursday, 10 am to 2 pm, October 2 through October 29, by visiting the Downtown Pittsfield, Inc. offices at 431 North Street, or by appointment.

2. The City of Pittsfield’s Office of Cultural Development announces the opening of In & Out of the Studios, featuring the artists of the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts and special guests. Explore an eclectic collection of original works spanning painting, pottery, photography, textiles, and bookmaking offering a glimpse into the diverse creativity thriving within and beyond the Lichtenstein Center.

Go beyond the gallery during the opening reception and into the artists’ creative spaces with open studios. During the event, resident artists will open their second- and third-floor studios, while Jim Horsford’s basement ceramics studio will also be open for visitors to explore. Come see where the art happens, meet the artists, and experience the creative energy of the Lichtenstein Center with In & Out of the Studios.

The exhibit is on view from October 2-30.

3. Hotel on North will feature an exhibition of mixed media and collage by Jody King Camarra October through December of 2026. There will be an opening reception with the artist on Friday, October 2, from 5 to 7 pm.

Jody King Camarra is a mixed-media artist, illustrator, and teaching artist living and working in the Berkshires of Massachusetts. Her studio practice explores the possibilities of collage, gel-plate monoprinting, found papers, and other layered materials.

Camarra’s work begins with experimentation. She prints, tears, cuts, prints, layers, obscures, and rebuilds, allowing both intention and chance to shape the final piece. Her process often leaves behind traces of what came before: torn edges, buried marks, unexpected textures, and fragments that suggest memory, change, and transformation.

This exhibition at Hotel on North features mostly new mixed-media, monoprints and collages created in her Ashley Falls studio. Together, the works reflect an ongoing interest in the imperfect, physical, and intuitive nature of making art by hand.

4. Autumn arrives at the Clocktower. Visit the beautiful galleries and pop into studios on Friday, October 2, 5 to 8 pm.
