Five years have passed since the loss of Austin Ramsey, but his memory and the impact he made on those around him remain as strong as ever. A beloved son, brother, friend, and patriot, Austin lived a life marked by courage, service, and dedication to others.

Austin proudly served his country as a member of the 75th Ranger Regiment before continuing his commitment to protecting others as a Deputy Sheriff in El Dorado County. His loyalty, compassion, and unwavering dedication left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

While we honor Austin's service and sacrifice, we also remember the battles he faced in silence. His passing serves as a powerful reminder that not all wounds are visible and that even those who dedicate their lives to protecting others may be facing struggles we cannot see.

Austin's legacy lives on through the Rally Point Foundation, established in his memory to support veterans, first responders, and their families. Through its commitment to su***de prevention, mental health awareness, and connecting those affected by service-related trauma with critical resources, the foundation is turning heartbreaking loss into hope and meaningful support for others.

As we remember Austin today, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting those who serve, encouraging open conversations about mental health, and reminding anyone who may be struggling that they do not have to face those battles alone.

Rest easy, Austin. You are deeply missed, never forgotten, and your legacy continues to make a difference in the lives of others.

On October 2, 2026, in Department 2 of the El Dorado County Superior Court, before the Honorable Judge Smith, Dylan Miller pleaded no contest to felony driving under the influence (DUI) and driving with a license suspended due to a prior DUI conviction.

Miller also admitted to three prior DUI convictions, a high blood alcohol concentration allegation, and being on probation at the time of the offense.

An El Dorado County Sheriff's deputy observed Miller crossing the fog line and double yellow lines while driving on Cameron Park Drive. During the traffic stop, Miller showed signs of alcohol impairment and acknowledged knowing his license was suspended, telling the deputy, “I know I am not supposed to be out driving right now.”

Miller refused to complete field sobriety testing. A subsequent blood test revealed a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.21%, more than two and a half times the legal limit of 0.08%.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, Miller will serve one year in county jail and three years of formal probation, including restrictions on alcohol use. His driver's license was revoked for four years, with a three-year ignition interlock requirement and designation as a habitual traffic offender for three years.

The Court also issued a Watson advisement, formally warning Miller that driving under the influence puts lives at risk. If he drives impaired again and causes a fatal crash, he could face murder charges.

The El Dorado County District Attorney's Office remains committed to holding repeat DUI offenders accountable and working to keep habitual impaired drivers off our roads to protect the safety of our community.

The El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office is proud to recognize Angie Larrigan, Program Manager of Victim Witness and the Child Advocacy Center, as our Employee of the Quarter!

There are people in every organization whose contributions reach far beyond their job description, and Angie is certainly one of them.

From leading and advocating for her Victim Witness team to overseeing the Child Advocacy Center and managing critical grant responsibilities, Angie takes on an incredible amount of work, much of which happens quietly behind the scenes. Her dedication helps ensure our staff have the support they need and that our office can continue providing essential services to victims and families in our community.

But what makes Angie so deserving of this recognition is not simply how much she does. It's the care, commitment, and dependability she brings to everything she takes on. Angie is the person you can turn to with a challenge, knowing it will be handled. She anticipates needs, looks out for her colleagues, and consistently goes above and beyond without seeking recognition.

Her work may not always be visible, but the difference she makes is undeniable. We are incredibly fortunate to have Angie as part of our team, and this recognition is a reflection of the appreciation and respect she has earned from those who work alongside her.

Angie, thank you for all that you do, for the people you support, and for the countless ways you make our office better. This recognition is so well deserved!

Domestic violence can affect anyone, regardless of age, background, gender, or circumstance. Abuse is not always visible and can take many forms, including physical violence, emotional abuse, intimidation, isolation, financial control, and the use of technology to monitor or control another person.

Throughout October, we stand with survivors, remember those whose lives have been impacted by domestic violence, and recognize the advocates, law enforcement professionals, and community partners who work every day to help individuals and families find safety and support.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, help is available.

In an emergency, call 911. For confidential support, the National Domestic Violence Hotline is available 24/7 at 800-799-SAFE (7233).

The Sheriff’s Posse of El Dorado County 501©(3), has organized a fundraiser for the family of Ryan Marietti. In late August 2026, Correctional Officer Ryan Marietti was killed in a tragic traffic accident while off duty.

Ryan was a Correctional Officer with the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, but more importantly, he was a lifelong member of our community. Raised in El Dorado County and an alumnus of Ponderosa High School, Ryan was called to a life of service and dedicated himself to serving the community he loved.

The following El Dorado County coffee shops and businesses are graciously participating in a fundraiser to support the Marietti family. The fundraiser is running now through Saturday afternoon, September 26.

Our hearts are heavy as we stand alongside our neighboring Placer County District Attorney's Office in mourning the tragic loss of Cheryl (Barron) Macy, a beloved former colleague and cherished member of their DA family.

As neighboring offices, we share a bond rooted in public service, community, and a commitment to justice. When tragedy strikes one of our own, that loss is felt throughout our entire prosecutorial family.

The El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office extends our deepest condolences to Cheryl’s family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Placer County community. We stand with you in grief and solidarity as you honor Cheryl’s life, her dedicated service, and the lasting impact she made on those around her.

We learned with profound sadness that the victim of last night’s homicide in Placer County was Cheryl (Barron) Macy, a beloved member of our Placer County District Attorney family for well over a decade.

Cheryl served this office from 2006 to 2020, but her connection to this office went far beyond her years of service. She was a valued colleague, a friend, and a cherished member of our DA family.

The loss of Cheryl is devastating to our office and to the entire community. Our hearts are with her family, her friends, and everyone who knew and loved her. We ask that their privacy be respected as they face this unimaginable loss.

We are grateful to the Placer County Sheriff's Office and all the law enforcement officers and first responders who confronted an extraordinarily difficult and dangerous situation and worked tirelessly to protect our community.

While this investigation continues, one fact cannot be ignored: the individual accused of Cheryl’s death had been arrested and released from custody multiple times in another county in the days before her death, including arrests involving alleged assault on a law enforcement officer, burglary, and vehicle theft.

These circumstances raise serious questions about whether our current state laws and recent state court decisions regarding pretrial release policies provide sufficient tools to local judges and those working within the system to help prevent these tragedies.

As prosecutors, our responsibility is not only to seek justice after someone is harmed, but to speak plainly when the system presents warning signs that cannot be ignored.

Today, however, our focus is Cheryl. She was a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother, a friend, a colleague, and a cherished member of our community. She deserves to be remembered for the life she lived, the people she touched, and the years she devoted to serving Placer County.

We hold Cheryl in our hearts, and stand with her family and everyone who is grieving this profound and senseless loss.
