Preparing for Samhain with Michael Cerulli Billingsley, Thursday, October 22nd, from 6:30 - 8 PM.

As the days grow shorter and the year turns toward winter, join us at the library to explore the traditions and meaning of Samhain, the ancient Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter.

We’ll look at the seasonal customs, folklore, foods, and practices associated with this threshold time of year, and consider how some of these traditions have carried forward into Halloween and other modern observances.

Come learn a little about Samhain's history and make space for the turning of the season. All are welcome!

During National Friends of the Library Week, October 18 - 24, let's all celebrate the Friends of the Cutler Memorial Library and thank them for all the wonderful work they do to support the library. From the beauty they bring to Town Meeting with their Primrose Sale, the joy they bring during stick season with their dance parties, and the monumental task of the annual Book & Bulb Sale, we can't thank the Friends enough for all they do!

If you want to join this lively group of library supporters, visit our website for more information and a membership form. Everyone is welcome!

Finally, finally, finally! We're beginning our long-awaited, much-needed bathroom renovation and will be closed for demolition tomorrow, Saturday, October 17th. If all goes well, we will reopen for our regular hours next week on Tuesday, October 20th, from 10 to 6 PM. Fingers crossed! This project is made possible by a grant from the American Library Association.

D&D at the Cutler,
Saturdays, October 10th and 31st, from 10 to 12:30 PM.
Ready for an adventure? Join us for an ongoing Dungeons & Dragons group at the library, open to players ages 12 and up. Whether you’re an experienced adventurer or completely new to the game, you’re welcome. The library has everything you need to play, including dice and other game materials, so there’s no need to bring anything but yourself. New players can jump in and learn as they go. Come roll some dice, build a character, and see where the story takes you. No registration is necessary. All are welcome.

Act 39 and Medical Aid in Dying in Vermont, Saturday, October 10th at 1 PM.

What does Vermont law actually allow when someone is facing a terminal illness? Patient Choices will lead a discussion about Act 39, Vermont’s Patient Choice and Control at End of Life law, and medical aid in dying. We’ll learn how the law works, who may qualify, what safeguards and requirements are involved, and how medical aid in dying fits alongside hospice, palliative care, and other end-of-life choices. Come learn more, ask questions, and have an open conversation about end-of-life options in Vermont. All are welcome!

To access the $10,000 grant funding from the American Library Association, we must host a Community Conversation to hear your ideas about how we can best use the funds to improve access to library services for people who have difficulty getting to the library because of illness or mobility challenges

Join us tomorrow, Saturday, September 19 at 1 PM to share your thoughts. Refreshments will be available!

Some of the questions we'll explore:
Should we create a delivery system for books and other materials?
Would a ride-share program help people get to the library?
Would you participate in a volunteer delivery system?
Should we invest in equipment to livestream programs and make recordings available afterward?
How could we make our website more accessible?
Should we offer portable Wi-Fi hotspots for patrons to borrow?
