Teacher of the Year
Culinary Arts Mr. Hester
IDOC emphasizes that vocational training reduces recidivism by improving post release employment prospects. Leadership notes that finding work after release is a major factor in successful reintegration, making culinary instruction a high impact educational role. Culinary Instruction is not just job training- it is a core part of Indiana’s reentry strategy. Mr. Hester plays a vital role by building job-ready skills, reducing recidivism, and supporting successful reentry through hands-on training and industry-recognized certification.

This beautiful image captured over our education building today represents hope, transformation, and a path forward. The stark contrast between the heavy cloud layer and the bright, intentional opening serves as a powerful metaphor for individuals pursuing education within our prison walls. Even when surrounded by rigid structures and heavy circumstances, this phenomenon reminds us that the sky above remains vast, open, and filled with the possibility of sudden, beautiful change.
