Learning doesn't stop with our students. Our educators are students, too.

Twelve Plainfield Public Schools teachers and administrators took their learning beyond the classroom at the “I AM THE ANSWER” Conference, joining educators from across the region for conversations about educator well-being, culturally responsive teaching, and creating school communities where students and staff can thrive.

Hosted by Dr. Jacynth Joyce, the conference brought together education leaders, including Brad Butler II, Daryl Williams Jr., and Principal Baruti Kafele, who shared experiences, strategies, and perspectives on teaching and leadership.

And there was a special moment for Plainfield. Our very own Frank Fusco, Assistant Principal at Plainfield High School was recognized for his dedication to students and colleagues. Congratulations, Mr. Fusco! We're glad to see your work and commitment celebrated beyond our district.

Whether you're walking for a loved one, celebrating a survivor, remembering someone we've lost, or simply showing your support, there's a place for you.

And you don't have to be a runner! Come out, walk at your own pace, bring your family and friends, and be part of something that brings our community together for a meaningful cause.

Plainfield High School students from the Allied Health Program enjoyed an exciting, hands-on experience at Students2Science in celebration of Allied Health Day. As honorary “Doctors for the Day,” students participated in emergency room simulations, conducted laboratory experiments, performed diagnostic tests, and explored careers in emergency medicine, hematology, microbiology, and other healthcare fields. Students were highly engaged as they worked together to solve medical challenges and gained valuable insight into the healthcare profession.

Throughout the day, students expressed their growing interest in pursuing careers in healthcare. Freshman Rachel shared that the experience left her more motivated than ever to achieve her dream of becoming a surgeon. The trip provided students with an opportunity to connect classroom learning to real-world medical experiences while inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Sometimes, the most important thing we can do for someone is simply ask, "How are you doing?" And take the time to listen.

Today is World Mental Health Day, a reminder that what we carry emotionally matters just as much as what others can see.

At Plainfield Public Schools, we believe that caring for our students means caring for the whole child. Their emotional well-being, sense of belonging, and ability to navigate life's challenges are just as important as their academic success.

And we know that work doesn't happen on its own.

Every day, our school social workers, counselors, and student support teams are having conversations that matter. They're helping students work through difficult moments, connecting families with resources, building relationships, and making sure students know they have someone in their corner.

Some of their most meaningful work happens quietly, behind closed doors, in moments that may never make it into a photograph or newsletter. But the difference they make is felt every day.

We want our students to know that asking for help is a sign of strength, that their feelings matter, and that they never have to navigate life's challenges alone.

A future neurologist. A Harvard acceptance. Nurses serving their own communities. These are some of the success stories that Plainfield High School math teacher Ms. Hong gets to look back on after 18 years in education.

And while she certainly has plenty of accomplishments of her own, it's watching her former students find their place in the world that brings her the greatest satisfaction.

Take last school year, for example. Just two years into offering AP Precalculus at Plainfield High School, one of Ms. Hong's classes earned a 100% pass rate on the AP exam, with an overall pass rate of 80% across her classes! 👏

But there's something else Ms. Hong enjoys just as much as those big achievements. The moment a student who has been struggling with a math concept finally figures it out.

It's those little breakthroughs that keep her excited about teaching, even after nearly two decades in the classroom.

Now in her fourth year with PPSD, Ms. Hong continues to challenge her students, build their confidence, and remind them of what they're capable of accomplishing.

And when the school day ends, there's a whole other side to Ms. Hong that you might not expect.

From our elementary classrooms to our secondary schools, students are finding creative ways to celebrate their cultures, heritage, and traditions during Hispanic Heritage Month.

They're building replicas of historic landmarks from their countries, marching in colorful parades, bringing flags to life through art, and learning about the history, people, music, and traditions that make each country unique.

And what makes it even better? Students are sharing pieces of their own heritage while learning something new about their classmates.

Join us for our FREE districtwide Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration, "Unidos, Somos Más" (Together, We Are More), for an evening of food, history, and culture on Wednesday, October 14, at 5 PM, at Plainfield High School.
