How do you know your child is getting a good education? You can review the curriculum, but that takes time. You can look at test scores but those scores are an imperfect measure of learning. Students figure out how to optimize their performance on multiple choice tests. They memorize single right answers, regurgitate the answer on the test, and then forget. They don't intend to forget but if a bit of knowledge or a fact is not used, it will be lost. Even in college students memorize, single-right answers, regurgitate on the test, and forget. A Unique Vantage Point
As a California refugee, I can see with fresh eyes the treasures Plano has – they are the treasures California has lost. For example, Texans, whether by birth or migration, engage in civil conversation. Texans really listen to your points and then they have their say. Such open and honest conversation doesn’t exist in California anymore. Texans also have what I call “a code of conduct”: Be responsible for yourself, learn as much as you can, be as healthy and strong as you can, because the code says you have a responsibility to help others. In Texas you will hear, “May I help you ma’am?” almost as often as you hear “Hi Y’all!”
