We have to change the way we look at people who have Substance Use Disorder. It’s an ugly disease, often leaving sufferers unrecognizable, leading to frustration and anger on both sides. It’s important not to forget who they are beyond their addiction. The treatment industry is changing, there are treatments that can work but hearts and minds need to open for them to be effective. SUD is a disease, not a moral failing.
