Our campuses are very diverse which allow us to learn about and celebrate with the many cultures which make up our communities. Today we had the privilege of celebration Nowruz with our residents, family and friends. Nowruz, also known as the Persian New Year, is one of the most ancient and widely celebrated festivals in the world. This vibrant and joyful occasion marks the beginning of spring and the renewal of life. Nowruz, which means “New Day” in Persian, has been celebrated for over 3,000 years in Iran and many other countries, including Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and parts of Central Asia. With deep cultural and historical significance, Nowruz brings families together and symbolizes rebirth, hope, and prosperity.

Residents enjoyed going to the Heritage Farmstead for "Lights on the Farm". Some toasted Marshmallows and made s'mores while all had fun posing for pictures with the light displays.

Plano Metropolitan Ballet danced for the residents at West Campus. The four ladies dressed in red and white are "generational dancers and are moms with children and jobs. The younger ladies will one day perform just as the generational dancers do. The residents absolutely love attending this event. The attendance grows and grows each time the ballet visits. Thank you, Plano Metropolitan Ballet, for bringing Joy to West Campus this holiday season.

Jingle and Mingle was West Campus' theme for their Holiday get together. Residents enjoyed finger food, hot cocoa, holiday punch and taking pictures with Santa. It was also Santa's birthday, so all sang Happy Birthday to Santa. Lots of Mingling and Jingling was happening amongst the residents.

Many many thanks to our monthly Bingo sponsor Dorrie and Volunteer Mikayla! Very Merry Bingo was merry for the residents. 25% of our residents attend Bingo now (vs. 10% in past) because of our committed sponsor and volunteers. This is a Holiday gift that keeps on giving and is a joy and blessing to our low-income seniors.

Decorating for the holidays at West Campus can be a lot. We have three individual buildings to decorate and depend on the residents and others to help. This year we had residents decorate the Phase 4 community room and our Adopt a Senior Program with the Plano Metropolitan Ballet helped decorate the Phase 3 and 5 community rooms. Thank you to all who helped make the holidays Merry and Bright at West Campus.

Holiday Events begin. East Campus had a holiday breakfast and invited Santa. Residents enjoyed the food, visiting with one another and taking pictures with Santa.

Pioneer Place resumes Bargain Basement with the assistance of East and West Campus Service Coordinators. Residents collect gold coins from various events offered at their property and then are able to purchase household products with their coins. If you're interested in helping making this program successful, you can donate household items such as dish soap, paper towels, toilet paper, soap, shampoo, oven cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner, etc. Contact [email protected].

Fairoaks of Denton again received a grant for monthly medical footcare clinics from Denton Flow Healthcare Foundation for 2026.
We are very grateful to Flow. Glenda Blackwell, DOCA and Roque Christensen, VP attended as well. Glenda stated, "the monthly footcare clinics made possible by Flow every year address and manage issues before they worsen. The podiatry clinic can then alert our Service Coordinator who can provide resources should there be additional needs. This keeps our seniors independent longer." Flow awarded almost 1/4 million in grant monies for 2026 to several non-profits in Denton that provide much needed health services to vulnerable populations.

This is the 5th year staff has cooked Thanksgiving Dinner for the residents. The first year was during COVID; we cooked, boxed everything up and delivered it to resident apartments. The staff has worked with the resident council in the past who supplied the turkey and ham. This year we served 45 residents and 7 staff and volunteers. The residents again had a wonderful time breaking bread together.
