💧 BOIL WATER ADVISORY LIFTED 💧

The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) has confirmed that the Boil Water Advisory for the affected areas of the City of Plaquemine has been officially LIFTED.

Residents in the affected areas may now resume normal use of their water. Boiling water before drinking, cooking, or food preparation is no longer necessary.

The City of Plaquemine thanks our residents and customers for their patience, understanding, and cooperation during this advisory.

Completed in 1909, the Plaquemine Lock was once the highest freshwater lock in the world, engineered to lift and lower boats between the Mississippi River and Bayou Plaquemine below. For decades it served as a vital shortcut for river traffic until larger vessels outgrew its dimensions and it closed to regular use in 1961.

Today the lock stands preserved as a National Historic Landmark, its massive steel gates and control house still intact, a quiet monument to an engineering feat that once moved boats and cargo through the heart of south Louisiana.

Residents of Plaquemine have one more opportunity to weigh in on the future of the city’s historic downtown district before a final revitalization plan is presented.
