The Platte County Commission has approved the Highway N Trailhead Park Master Plan.

The future trailhead park will be located south of Platte City along Highway N, approximately ½ mile north of the Highway N and Highway D intersection.

The master plan includes:
• Nature-themed playground
• Expanded parking
• Restrooms
• Multiple shelters
• Looped trails
• Natural habitat restoration
• Dog park

The plan was developed with input from the Citizens Advisory Committee, Platte County Park Board, and the public.

Next up: finalizing design plans and construction of Phase 1 in 2027.

🚧 Southern Platte Pass Resurfacing Begins September 28! 🚧

Another trail improvement project is getting underway!

Beginning Monday, September 28, 2026, resurfacing work is scheduled to begin on the Southern Platte Pass, starting at the I-435 side and continuing all the way to Riss Lake.

Trail users should expect lane closures and construction activity as crews work their way along the trail. Please use caution, watch for equipment and follow any posted signs or closures.

We know construction can be a little inconvenient while the work is happening, but the end result will be worth it — a fresh, improved trail surface for everyone to enjoy! 🚶‍♀️🚴‍♂️🏃

Just like the recent improvements along Prairie Creek Greenway, this project is another example of your Platte County Parks tax dollars at work, reinvesting in our existing trails and keeping them in great shape for years to come.

🎨 Calling Local Artists — Applications Are Now Open!

MU Extension and Platte County Parks & Recreation are accepting applications for the Dorothy Day Cabin Artist Residency, taking place October 26–November 6, 2026.

This two-week residency gives a local artist the opportunity to create and find inspiration in the peaceful, historic setting of the Dorothy Day Cabin.

The residency is open to artists who live in Clay, Jackson or Platte counties in Missouri, or Johnson or Wyandotte counties in Kansas. Eligible applicants include visual artists such as painters, sculptors and mixed-media artists, as well as creative writers, nonfiction writers and poets.

📅 Application deadline: October 2
🎨 Residency: October 26–November 6
📣 Selected artist notified: October 9

The selected artist will also share their work with the community through a workshop and/or artist talk and donate one piece of artwork to the cabin.
