**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE**
**South Plattsburgh Fire Department Assists with Mutual Aid Boat Fire Response on Lake Champlain**
**Lake Champlain** – Earlier today, the South Plattsburgh Fire Department responded on an automatic mutual aid assignment to the Peru Fire District for a reported boat fire on Lake Champlain.
The incident occurred on the southeast side of Valcour Island, near the New York–Vermont state line. Prior to the arrival of emergency responders, the occupants of the vessel were safely transferred to a nearby bystander's boat. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The boat is considered to be a total loss.
Due to the location of the incident, there was a coordinated response from multiple agencies. In addition to the Peru Fire Department & EMS and the South Plattsburgh Fire Department, agencies responding included Keeseville Fire Department, the Colchester, VT Police Department, Colchester, VT Fire Department, South Hero, VT Fire Department, the United States Coast Guard, and the Clinton County Sheriff's Office.
The South Plattsburgh Fire Department extends its sincere appreciation to all responding agencies for their professionalism and cooperation. Also a shout out to our dispatchers at Clinton County OES for their coordination. Incidents on Lake Champlain occasionally require coordination between agencies from both New York and Vermont, and today's response demonstrated the strength of those mutual aid partnerships.
