🎃 Happy Halloween from the Central Piedmont Fire Department!

We hope your costumes are spooky, your smiles are big, and your candy buckets are filled to the brim!

As all the little ghosts, goblins, and superheroes head out for a night of trick-or-treating, here are a few friendly reminders to keep the fun safe:

⭐ Be Seen: Carry flashlights, wear bright colors, or add glow sticks to your costumes.

⭐ Stay Together: Younger trick-or-treaters should always have an adult nearby.

⭐ Watch for Traffic: Cross at intersections, use sidewalks when available, and stay alert.

⭐ Drivers, Slow Down: Keep an extra eye out for excited trick-or-treaters!

From all of us at Central Piedmont Fire Department, we wish everyone a fun, safe, and candy-filled Halloween!

Every Second Counts, Have a Home Fire Escape Plan!

Once a smoke alarm sounds, you may have less than two minutes to escape safely. Prepare your family before an emergency happens:

🏠 Draw a map of your home, including all doors and windows.
🚪 Identify two ways out of every room.
🪟 Make sure doors, windows, and escape routes remain clear.
📍 Choose a safe outdoor meeting place where everyone will gather.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Include children, older adults, individuals with disabilities, and pets in your plan.
🚨 Practice your escape plan with everyone in the household at least twice a year.
📞 Once outside, stay outside and call 911. Never go back inside for people, pets, or belongings.

A home escape plan only works if everyone knows it and practices it. Make your plan today—it could save a life.

Fire Safety Week: Smoke Alarms Save Lives 🔥

Did you know working smoke alarms reduce the risk of dying in a home fire by 55%? When an alarm sounds, you may have only two minutes to escape. Three out of every five home fire deaths occur in homes without working smoke alarms.

Protect your family:

▪️Install smoke alarms on every level of your home, inside and outside of sleeping areas.

▪️Test alarms monthly and never remove the batteries or disable an alarm.

▪️Keep alarms clean and free of dust.

▪️Create and practice a home escape plan with two ways out of every room and a designated meeting place outside.

▪️Teach children what the alarm sounds like and what to do when they hear it. NEVER assume an alarm is false.

▪️Replace smoke alarms when they are 10 years old.

A working smoke alarm provides the early warning you need to escape. Test yours today—it could save a life.
