On Monday night we had a fantastic Maker Mondays presentation from Carol Weihe about Stories in Hand Stitching! Carol showed us her hand stitched quilt squares that started as a meditation practice and turned into a fun way to keep memories. Carol showed that with these small squares, "it's about the process, not the project", meaning you can make a square with no pressure to use it in a bigger project!

Join us on the third Monday each month for Maker Mondays to learn new art skills and about the tools you can use in our makerspace cabinet! Register on our online calendar at https://pleasanthill-ia.whofi.com/calendar/full

Happy National Friends of Libraries Week! 💙📚

Did you know you can make a big difference at your library simply by becoming a Friend? 🥰

We’re celebrating our Friends of the Library and thanking them for all they do to support our library and community! Their recent grant award will help fund upcoming improvements to our children’s area, creating an even more welcoming space for our youngest readers and their families. They’ve also helped fund new shelving and DVD purchases, making a real difference in the resources and spaces available to our community! 📚🎬

Now, we need YOU! 🌟 Our Friends group needs more members to continue supporting the library and helping make great things happen. For just $25 a year, you can become a member — and as a little thank-you, you’ll receive a FREE Library art pin during your first year! 💝

✨ Want to join? Find out more here: pleasanthilliowa.org/851/Friends-of-the-Library OR stop by the library to pick up a membership brochure and application.

Every new member helps our Friends do more for our library and community. Help us grow, show your library love, and become a Friend today! đź’–

🎉 Exciting news for Pleasant Hill Public Library! 🎉

The Friends of the Pleasant Hill Public Library have been awarded a Community Betterment Grant from Prairie Meadows to support our Future-Ready Library Upgrade—the largest grant the Library has ever received!

We are deeply grateful to Prairie Meadows Casino, Racetrack & Hotel for their support. This generous award will help us bring new technology and family-centered spaces to the Library, creating even more opportunities for our community to learn, discover, grow, and connect.

We’re wrapping up this year’s community read with a special discussion led by CultureALL Ambassador Yerliana Reyna, who will share cultural insights and lead a conversation about the book.

Whether you’ve been part of the community read from the beginning or are just joining the conversation, we’d love to have you! Spanish copies of Violeta are still available at the Library, (all our English copies have been claimed) so grab a copy and invite your friends and family.

On Saturday, October 10, we had a wonderful time learning about Chicano Printmaking with CultureALL ambassador Seso Marentes! We learned about the story behind Seso's art tied to his Chicano heritage and were inspired to try printmaking at home. Everyone's designs came out wonderfully and sparked our creativity!
