I hope you’ll join me for our 4th Annual Atascosa County State of the County Address on **Tuesday, October 20, at 5:30 p.m. at the Atascosa County Justice Center.**

We’ll share an update on your county, recognize the people whose service makes a difference, and look ahead to the work still before us. As we celebrate 170 years of Atascosa County, we’ll also reflect on the history we share and what we carry forward for the next generation.

This is your county, and I look forward to seeing you there!

We Are Atascosa Proud!

Tomorrow, October 6, is National Night Out! In this week’s Monday Minute with the Judge, I’m joined by Deputy Chief Eric Kaiser from the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office to talk about opportunities to meet the officers and first responders who serve our communities.

Bring your family to an event near you, get to know the people behind the badge, and help strengthen the relationships that keep Atascosa County connected. Thank you to everyone making these events possible!

Everyone deserves to feel safe in their own home. During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we remember those whose lives were taken, stand with survivors, and remind anyone experiencing abuse that they are not alone. 💜

We will be joining Safer Path to honor victims and show our support for survivors and their families. If you feel called to join us, we hope to see you there. Coming together is one way we can show that our community cares and that those affected by domestic violence have people standing beside them.

Thank you to Safer Path Family Violence Shelter for the safety and support you provide every day.

🌟 Shining Light Into the Dark Places 🌟

In Honoring Texas Victims Report a heartbreaking statistic reveals that 69% of victims were killed in their own homes — a reminder that domestic violence often occurs behind closed doors, in places that should be safe and trusted.

At Safer Path, we strive to shine light into those dark places, offering hope, safety, and support to those impacted by abuse.

💜 Come show your support for victims and survivors. 💜 Help spread awareness in our community. 💜 Stand with us as we honor lives lost and work toward a future free from violence.

If you or someone you love is experiencing domestic violence, stalking, or human trafficking, please call our Safer Path 24-hour hotline at 830-569-2001.

What started three years ago as an idea to give our young people more opportunities right here at home has grown into a program our entire County can be proud of.

The Summer Internship Program is about giving students a seat at the table, exposing them to public service, and showing them that there are opportunities to learn, grow, and make a difference right here in Atascosa County.

I’m incredibly proud of our students, our County employees who take the time to mentor them, and everyone who has helped make this program what it is today.

It’s an honor to see the program recognized with the Neighborhood Impression Award, and I’m excited to see where we take it from here.

America is celebrating 250 years. Texas is marking 190. And right here at home, Atascosa County is celebrating 170 years! 🇺🇸

I hope you’ll join me for our fourth annual State of the County Address on Tuesday, October 20, at 5:30 p.m. at the Atascosa County Justice Center.

We have a lot to talk about. I’ll share where our County stands in 2026, including our budget and tax rate, public safety and EMS, county roads, and the work we’re doing for our young people. We’ll celebrate employees who have devoted decades to Atascosa County and recognize this year’s Impact Person of the Year.

These anniversaries remind us of the generations who built this place—and our responsibility to the generations who will follow us. I want you to be part of that conversation.

Your Commissioners and I will stay after the address to visit and hear your questions and ideas. Bring a neighbor, and come spend the evening with us!

God bless Atascosa County, God bless Texas, and God bless America. We are Atascosa Proud!

For this week’s Monday Minute, I spoke with Jeff Thornton a few weeks ago, Director of the Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program, about how JJAEP helps young people learn from their choices and move forward with education, structure, and support.

Second chances matter.

Thank you to Jeff and his team for the work they do for Atascosa County’s youth. We are Atascosa Proud!

🎥 Monday Minute with Judge Cude | More Than a Ride

In a large, rural county like Atascosa, reliable transportation can make the difference between reaching a doctor’s appointment, getting to work, buying groceries, or going without something essential.

Through our partnership with the Alamo Area Council of Governments, Alamo Regional Transit provided 2,234 trips for Atascosa County residents in June alone.

Services such as Cowboy Connect help seniors maintain their independence, connect residents with medical care and employment, and ensure transportation is not a barrier to opportunity.

Sometimes public service means making sure a neighbor has a way to get where they need to go.

I am grateful for our partnership with AACOG and Alamo Regional Transit and for the work they do to keep Atascosa County connected.
