Yellow means slow down. Red means STOP. 🚦

Did you know the most dangerous part of a student's bus ride is actually getting on and off the vehicle? That’s why driving focused around school buses is so critical.

If you see alternating red flashing lights and an extended stop sign:
🛑 STOP from both directions (unless separated by a divided highway)
đź‘€ LOOK OUT for kids crossing the street

It is so important we give our bus drivers and students the safe streets they deserve!

Above average temperatures through the 80s, paired with gusty winds, dry conditions and cured cropland will result in elevated fire weather conditions today, especially over western and northern Iowa. Extra caution should be taken when operating farm equipment, as any fire starts in these conditions can quickly spread and become uncontrollable. Stay safe out there!

While the fields may be muddy, the crops have been able to dry with the warm temperatures and sunny skies today. Warm, dry, and windy conditions are expected tomorrow, meaning fires could spread easily. Use caution while harvesting this weekend and take a fire extinguisher with you.

PUBLIC SAFETY NIGHT UPDATE

Unfortunately, Mother Nature has officially crashed the party.

After closely watching the forecast and reaching out to the Weather Service for their expert guidance, we have made the difficult decision to CANCEL Marion County Public Safety Night.

The current forecast calls for a 60–80% chance of precipitation, with showers and thunderstorms likely throughout the afternoon. The National Weather Service has also expressed that some severe storms could occur, including the potential for gusty winds.

And let's be honest… if it were just rain, none of us would melt. We’re public safety people. We’ve stood outside in much worse.

But the concern isn't the rain. It's the storms.
As the people who spend our days telling YOU to make the safe choice, we have to be willing to make that same choice ourselves.

đź’” We will NOT be rescheduling Public Safety Night this year.
Our departments, vendors, sponsors, volunteers, and planning team have put so much time and effort into making this a great afternoon for our community.

To everyone who planned to attend: THANK YOU. Thank you for supporting the men and women who serve Marion County and for showing up year after year to celebrate public safety with us.

And don't worry, we're already looking ahead to Public Safety Night 2027, and one thing is going on the planning list immediately: A RAIN DATE.

Because apparently we needed to learn the hard way that Mother Nature does not respect our event calendar.

Please share this post so we can make sure everyone who planned to attend gets the message.
