Plympton Fire Chief Duddy is incredibly proud to congratulate Firefighter Jay Walsh on receiving the Martin H. McNamara Outstanding Student Award from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy’s Call/Volunteer Recruit Class #129!

This prestigious award recognizes one recruit in each graduating call/volunteer class for outstanding performance in academic and practical skills, testing, and evaluations throughout the firefighter training program.

The award honors Martin β€œMarty” McNamara V, a call firefighter with the Lancaster Fire Department who tragically lost his life in the line of duty on November 29, 2003, while battling a fire in a multifamily home. The award keeps Marty’s memory alive by recognizing the dedication, knowledge, and skills of the next generation of firefighters who commit themselves to serving and protecting their communities.

Jay’s accomplishment reflects his hard work, dedication, and commitment to developing the skills necessary to serve the residents of Plympton safely and professionally.

Please join us in congratulating Jay on this well-deserved recognition! We are proud to have him as a member of the Plympton Fire Department and look forward to watching him continue to grow throughout his firefighting career.

Congratulations, Jay! You’ve made Plympton proud!

The Plympton Fire Department is proud to congratulate three of our members on successfully graduating from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy Call/Volunteer Recruit Class 129! Jay Walsh, Stephen Locke, and Brendan Adams have spent the last 6 months training 2 evenings per week, and every Saturday. In total the members have committed 240 hours of training each, in addition to department training while attending the academy.

This achievement represents the completion of an intensive six-month commitment to training, discipline, teamwork, and service to our community. Throughout the program, these recruits dedicated countless hours to learning the fundamentals of firefighting and developing the skills necessary to serve safely and effectively.

Graduation is more than an accomplishment β€” it marks the beginning of their continued fire service education and the foundation for a career built on safety, professionalism, and lifelong learning. The knowledge and skills gained at the Academy will serve as the building blocks for their future development as firefighters.

We are proud of their hard work, dedication, and commitment to protecting the residents of Plympton. Please join us in congratulating our three graduates on this important milestone!

Well done, Class 129! Welcome to the next chapter of your fire service journey!
