Our Leadership Tomorrow students had the unique opportunity to spend the day with the SWAT team on Wednesday! Layla Acosta acted as a hostage in a scenario while SWAT was able to demonstrate what happens in these situations. The students were then able to ask questions and explore the equipment. Thank you Lufkin Police Department for providing this opportunity and learning experience for Leadership Tomorrow!

When stress shows up, what does your teen reach for?
The coping skills they build today can shape the choices they make tomorrow, especially when substances become part of the conversation. Talk with your teen about simple, healthy coping strategies:

🏈 Try the 4-7-8 breathing technique: inhale for 4, hold for 7, exhale for 8. It helps calm the nervous system and create space before reacting.
🚶 Get moving with a walk, stretching, or shooting hoops.
🎵 Express emotions through music, art, or creative activities.
📝 Journal thoughts and feelings to work through challenges.

And then, practice together. Teens learn more from what we do than what we say. By modeling healthy ways to handle stress, you're helping build resilience and strengthening their defense against risky behaviors.

Visit The Coalition or angelinacoalition.org/resources to access the Prevention Playbook for Parents, available in English and Spanish, with practical tips and tools to help families support healthy decision-making and reduce risk.

The Drug-Free Council program is funded by a grant from TxDOT to reduce the number of alcohol-related crashes in Texas.
