Animal Rescue
Holly Lane, Pomeroy village

Crews responded to an assistance call for a cat in a tree on Tuesday morning. Upon arrival, a cat was discovered in a tree branch approximately 30 feet off the ground. As personnel got closer, the cat went further off onto the branch. Crews then used a chainsaw to safely take the tree down onto another nearby tree which provided a better angle for the cat to come down. The cat remained in the tree and the owners put out food to lure the cat down after responders cleared. All units left and the homeowner later reported the cat came out of the tree with no injuries. Responding was Pomeroy Ladder 2 and the Meigs County Dog Shelter with a catch pole.

Bill Lambert
Pomeroy FD
Unit 25

On Thursday, 10-8-2026, the members of our department were informed of the passing of life member William “Bill” Lambert, who passed away at his residence following a brief illness. Bill was still classified as an active member, who made his final call in June of this year.

Joining the department on February 24, 1974, Bill proudly served the department and community. During his time on the department, Bill served in the rank of Firefighter, Senior Firefighter, and Lieutenant. On the business side, Bill spent multiple terms as the Treasurer of the Pomeroy Firemen’s Association, amassing a record number of terms in the position. As he transitioned from an active interior to an outdoor pump operator/engineer firefighter, Bill began running more actively on the Pomeroy Volunteer Emergency Squad 1. During this time, Bill spent two terms as Squad Chief, becoming the final Chief before the squad company dissolved. Among his proudest accomplishments were the calls made, lives saved, and young men and women mentored and going further into emergency medical services. Bill enjoyed attending various meetings in Columbus at the Ohio EMS conference and locally with Meigs County Firefighter’s Association.

Members of the department always knew Bill would know the days happenings, and keep everyone updated on the upcoming weather. He always kept a keen eye on the projected river forecast during Ohio River flood events. There were a lot of things Bill knew, and he was always quick to pass it along.

Collectively, we say thank you Bill. Although no funeral services are planned, we felt your 52 years of service should be acknowledged. Thanks 25, we’ve got it here.
