This morning, September 16, 2026, at approximately 10:07 a.m., the Pompton Lakes Police Department received a transferred 9-1-1 call from Passaic County dispatch reporting that an individual was armed inside Windsor School.
Windsor School was immediately placed into lockdown, and Pompton Lakes Police officers responded to the school. Mutual aid assistance was also provided by the Riverdale Police Department, Wanaque Police Department, and Bloomingdale Police Department.
Responding officers established a perimeter, made contact with school security personnel, and entered the building to investigate the report and ensure the safety of students and staff.
Through the investigation conducted by our officers and detectives, the source of the 9-1-1 call was identified and determined to be a juvenile. It was determined that there was no credible threat to Windsor School and that no armed individual was present inside the school. No weapon was located, and no injuries were reported.
By approximately 10:35 a.m., officers determined that there was no threat to the school. The police response was cleared at approximately 10:40 a.m.
We recognize the concern that an incident of this nature creates for our parents, students, school staff, and community. Any report involving a potentially armed individual inside one of our schools will be treated with the highest level of seriousness and investigated immediately.
I would like to thank the Riverdale Police Department, Wanaque Police Department, and Bloomingdale Police Department for their immediate mutual aid response. I would also like to recognize our dispatchers, officers, detectives, and Windsor School personnel for their professionalism and coordinated response.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the 9-1-1 call remains ongoing. Due to the involvement of a juvenile, no identifying information will be released at this time.
