Mexican-born filmmaker Guillermo del Toro celebrates his 62nd birthday today!

๐ŸŽฅ Now known for his distinctive style, and his love of sympathetic "monsters", del Toro began experimenting with his father's Super-8 camera to create short films when he was around 8-years old.

๐ŸŽฅ After the success of his 1993 feature film debut, del Toro was offered a large budget to produce the 1997 science fiction horror "Mimic". Disagreements with studio executives led him to avoid Hollywood productions until his return in 2002.

๐ŸŽฅ del Toro has always prioritized practical effects & sets, the use of special effects makeup, and inventive character design. All of these facets of his work are featured in some of his most universally loved films - "Pan's Labyrinth", "The Shape of Water", and "Frankenstein".
