Our Department is full of champions, and our annual All-Staff Training Day was a great reminder of what we can accomplish when we come together as a team!

Back in Lakeside for the second year, we embraced our “We Are Champions” theme, showed off some favorite sports team gear, and spent the day looking ahead at the future of our organization. A huge thank you to Kane Learning for facilitating a day of strategic planning and helping create space for staff to share their ideas and perspectives.

We’re excited to carry that input forward as we shape our priorities and plans for the years ahead!

Yesterday, Ottawa County hosted its annual “No Wrong Door” training, welcoming front-line staff who are new to the county to learn more about local resources, agencies, and services available to our community.

Facilitated by the Ottawa County Family & Children First Council, the training is built around a simple idea: no matter which county agency a resident turns to for help, they can be connected with the resources and support they need, right from the start.

This year’s training included a Health and Wellness panel discussion featuring our very own Public Health Nurse, Whitney Kingsborough. We’re glad to see our staff building connections across Ottawa County to help residents find the support they need!

We had the pleasure of attending the Ottawa County Career Showcase yesterday at the fairgrounds! Health Department staff were able to share with local 8th, 11th, and 12th graders about the work we do at the department and the many career opportunities available in public health as they begin thinking about what career path might be right for them.

Thank you to the Ottawa County Business Advisory Council for having us and for bringing together so many great agencies and organizations from throughout the county!

1 in 8 U.S. women will develop breast cancer during their lifetime. Although breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women, finding it early can make a difference in treatment.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, consider talking with your healthcare provider about your personal risk factors and when you should begin regular breast cancer screening.

Next up in our employee spotlight series is our Clerical Division Supervisor, Mary Daniels! Mary joined the Ottawa County Health Department in 2015 and has enjoyed the opportunity to serve our community while supporting her team.

Mary finds deep satisfaction in solving problems, streamlining processes, and working directly with the public to make things a little easier for everyone. What she enjoys most about working in Ottawa County is the diversity of our work and the opportunity to collaborate with such a great community.

When asked what she wishes more people knew about the work our Health Department does, Mary shared that she hopes people realize how much we genuinely enjoy serving our community. Even when we cannot directly assist with a particular need, we are always here to help point people toward the right resources. Looking ahead, Mary is most excited about collaborating with our new team members and putting their fresh ideas into action!

Thank you, Mary, for your hard work and dedication to serving our community!
