Online Vaccine Exemption Certification Service Saves Hundreds of Families a Trip

Under Michigan Compiled Laws (MCL) 333.9215(2), parents have an absolute statutory right to a nonmedical vaccine exemption for their child based on religious convictions or other objection. The St. Clair County Health Department is making that right easier toexercise. Six months after launching online certification of nonmedical exemptions on April 7, 2026, staff have completed 582 online certifications, one per child, sparing an estimated 459 families a trip previously needed to obtain certifications for one or more children.
