Did you know that early voting is available this weekend? Polls are open Saturday, Oct. 24, from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. and again on Sunday, Oct. 25, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

While you are voting, you will notice that CCISD is on the ballot with a Voter Approved Tax Rate Election (VATRE) under Proposition A. The district is asking voters to consider a 3 cent increase to the CCISD M&O side of the tax rate, which ends up being just a 1/4 of a cent of an increase in this year's total CCISD tax rate, compared to last year's rate (and that's due to the I&S/bond rate going down by two cents since last year along with state compression of the rate).

CCISD is facing a $4 million budget deficit and is working through strategies to sustain district operations, despite rising costs, declining enrollment, and other financial challenges. The proposed VATRE would generate $1.5 million in annual funding to support student programs, employee compensation, and essential operations. Funds generated by the VATRE stay local and are not subject to recapture by the state. Calhoun High School Sandcrab game night information....
1) Tickets available at Go Fan
2) A courtesy shuttle bus takes guests back and forth from the CHS parking lot (as another parking option)
3) Tonight's the Pink Out game, so join us in showing support for breast cancer awareness by wearing your favorite pink attire or accessory.
4) If you can't join us live at the game, a livestream is provided by the Calhoun Sports Network and local sponsors.

More than 20 lucky Calhoun High School and Travis Middle School Fighting Fiddlers students were recently invited by our friends at the Calhoun County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, TPWD Inland Fisheries, TPWD Game Wardens, and Calhoun County Precinct 1 to come fishing at the Chocolate Bayou Park. Students enjoyed the fishing and other amenities available at the park. Thanks to Texas AgriLife Marine Agent RJ Shelly for filleting and delivering our keepers, so that we could demonstrate to the students how to prepare a fried fish dinner. Also, thank you to the Calhoun County 4-H Sportfishing Club, Calhoun County EMS, PLFD, Port Lavaca Mayor Luis De La Garza, RJ Shelly, Emilee DeForest, Commissioner John Martinez, teachers, parents, and all of the above mentioned agencies/volunteers for helping with the fishing and/or cooking. Thank you to Cathy's Restaurant for donating items for the meal. It was a great day, and a community effort, and we had so much fun!
